This year's Awards Season is heavily overshadowed by the catastrophic wildfires in California. And while we may be able to go on with our Awards, it is a bit more somber than in previous years.

Each user may cast votes for the two nominees they deem most deserving.

The male nominees are:

I voted. (Unfortunately, I haven't actually seen any of the entries other than my own, so I had to pick more on the avatars themselves, than on the performances. Sorry.)

Way back when I entered, I had said:

This last nom was tricky, as there were two people / roles I wanted to nominate. I ended up going with the one that nobody has apparently seen (and I couldn't even find a good gif for), rather than the one that everyone has probably seen.

And I entered Noomi Rapace for Constellation, which apparently not many people have seen. (Its cancellation was one of my bigger entertainment-related disappointments for 2024.) I thought someone else might have ended up entering the other one, since my understanding was a lot of people had seen this movie... but no one did. So as an honourable mention/alternate, the other nominee I was considering was:

Kirsten Dunst as Lee Smith, Civil War

Still a few days left to vote.

While they didn't get nominated, I thought these were also very deserving performances:

Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobb in "The Penguin", Season 1

Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor in "Doctor Who", Series 14

Zendaya as Chani in "Dune: Part Two"

Demi Moore as Elisabeth Sparkle in "The Substance"

Ms. Purnell has asked me to thank everyone who voted for her, and to tell you that she will treasure her Golden Spock always.

As for me, I'll try to get a new contest up soon-ish. Hopefully by the end of the weekend? Fingers crossed.

Hi all.

So, please let me apologize profusely. Due to events around the time, I kind of forgot that I was the last winner of record in the SF&F contest. And that was also right around the time of my self-imposed withdrawal from most forums other than those I personally moderate. So I didn't see this thread to remind me that the contest was waiting for my followup. And as a result, the contest has just laid dormant for three months. I'm very sorry about that.

Thank you to @Orac for PMing me today to remind me that I was the weak link in this chain. I appreciate the reminder.

So, I will start up a new contest momentarily, and will see it through to completion, and then whoever wins can move forward with it, while I resume my (temporary?) absence from this forum.

I will update this post with a link when the new contest thread is ready.

ETA: The new contest is now up.

Again, my apologies for letting this sit for so long.
