That's right, get ready to see the band get back together again in a new movie:

The sequel to the iconic mockumentary "This Is Spinal Tap" is set to start filming in February 2024. Rob Reiner will return to direct and write, and original stars/writers Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer will reprise their roles as Nigel Tufnel, David St Hubbins and Derek Smalls, respectively.

Reiner, who will will once again star as the documentarian Martin "Marty" Di Bergi, said during an appearance on the "RHLSTP With Richard Herring" podcast: "We're making a sequel. We're going to start shooting in the end of February, and everybody is back."

Last year, Reiner told Deadline about the decision to to release a new "Spinal Tap" movie: "For so many years, we said, 'nah.' It wasn't until we came up with the right idea how to do this. You don't want to just do it, to do it. You want to honor the first one and push it a little further with the story." As for the new movie's premise, Reiner said: "They've played Albert Hall, played Wembley Stadium, all over the country and in Europe. They haven't spent any time together recently. The idea was that Ian Faith, who was their manager, he passed away. In reality, Tony Hendra passed away. Ian's widow inherited a contract that said SPINAL TAP owed them one more concert. She was basically going to sue them if they didn't. All these years and a lot of bad blood we'll get into and they're thrown back together and forced to deal with each other and play this concert."

I'd honestly prefer if Christopher Guest directed it at this point. Reiner used to be one the best directors going but hasn't really turned in a good film in at least twenty years, whereas even minor Guest films like "Mascots" were worth a chuckle or two.

I think there's a little more to it than doing a sequel.
I've read on a couple of websites that if they don't do something with the characters/music, then they lose the rights or something like that and then any studio can snatch them up and do whatever they want with them without consulting the actors.

That would be weird considering they finally reached a legal agreement just a few years ago regarding music and merchandising rights.
