Science Fiction inside the Star Trek universe

Obviously it exists within Star Trek. It looks like it's a mixture of "Real" science fiction ( I.e The Day The Earth Stood Still) and "fictionalized Sci-fi " ( "Captain Proton") . But what about the big "giants" of Science fiction? Namely Dr Who, Twilight Zone and Star Wars? George Lucas? . My guess is they still exist but in an alternate form. You will not find an interview of George Lucas crediting Star Trek as one of his influences for example. If "Forbidden Planet" exists, I imagine Starfleet would revere this movie as very prophetic.

Now a viewpoint can be made that all of science fiction exists EXCEPT for Star Trek. But Captain Proton and Dixon Hill seems to suggests there's is an ( atleast somewhat) alternate "fiction" in the Star Trek universe that differs from our actual fiction.

What about all the actors and showrunners in Star Trek. Do they exist in an alternate form? People like Harlan Eliison?

I have also wondered if the showrunners over the years have avoided mentioning the big science fiction franchises in order to leave the door open ( even if its a remote possibility) of shared universe crossovers like the long imagined Star Wars/ Star Trek crossover. .

Well, there's Battlecruiser Vengeance. Obviously, it must be enjoyed in the original Klingon!

I agree with you that logically, the television show Star Trek can't exist in Star Trek's past. However, I guess it wouldn't surprise me much if there was something else similar, like the fictional-show-within-the-movie Galaxy Quest, that basically took Star Trek's role in television history in the Star Trek universe.

Besides Star Trek, the Star Trek universe probably also can't have Larry Niven's Known Space series, or at least elements of it, since the Kzinti are real.

Either the actors themselves don't exist, or they didn't have anywhere near the same level of fame without Star Trek. Otherwise, The Voyage Home would have been filled with random people saying "Oh my god, it's William Shatner!" (or other performer of your choosing).

That would be a reasonable idea, I think.

Even so, there are times I wished the Star Trek Franchise exists even within the Star Trek universe. For example, in Future's End when Janeway and her crew traveled back to 1996, I thought it would have been a fun idea to have some trekkies recognize them :)

If I had to take a crack at what science-fiction would look like from the 23rd century on...

I'm guessing it would probably touch on topics like the ones Spock claims V'GER is attempting to explore but needs a human quality to be able to conceive it (e.g., higher dimensions of being, different levels of thought, and probably speculation about other galaxies and the nature of the universe as a whole). With all the weird shit they've experienced so far, they would have the impetus to imagine even weirder things.

This is always an interesting topic for discussion. Star Trek is a rich and diverse universe filled with advanced technology, extraterrestrial races and exciting adventures. But every science fiction franchise has its own twists and mechanics. Speaking of the existence of other franchises within Star Trek, perhaps there are alternate versions of these franchises that can be integrated into the unique context of the Star Trek universe.

Maybe like "Space Wars" as a parody reference to "Star Wars".
Then you can have "Space Trek" as a parody reference to "Star Trek".
"Space Gate" if you want to reference "Star Gate".

I think super hero franchises might be more popular in the Star Trek universe. Fantasy might also be a larger fandom.

On the contrary. We are talking about a world that faced the Eugenics Wars, basically WWIII between regular humans resisting superhumans who would use their superpowers to conquer the world. Superheros may be fictional, but reading about them would be in so bad taste after that. I would bet that, if it once existed, it's a dead genre by this point.

Even if Batman himself has no powers, he is a superhero, and the genre itself is about superpowers, so Batman would be over as well.

Or perhaps not, perhaps he will be the only superhero to survive that, because...

I imagine that nostalgia reigns supreme, whether for the fantasy future we thought we would have (such as Captain Proton) or for the past eras (Dixon Hill, etc). People who are interested in the kind of sci-fi Star Trek is would have re-framed the genre as being more akin to contemporary fiction with a scientific plot/setting, rather than sci fi as we think of it.

I would think that a lot of 23rd century (and certainly 32nd century!) science fiction would be difficult for us to understand or the TV producers to come up with, since many or most “science fiction” ideas in the 21st century would just be technothrillers to them. Though stories about even-farther-future eras able to do things that the civilizations in Star Trek can’t yet would qualify.
