One with Charlie Sheen, the spinning gold colored one. Forget title.

Seeking mainly smallish chrome type orbs. There was a 70's alien sci fi movie that had these zippin about in the desert.

Ohh, I think I know the one you're talking about. It was this hideously slow-paced movie with two long, long scenes consisting of nothing more than a characters walking through the desert with a hovering alien orb following them, then walking back again. I remember seeing it on TV -- the character started walking, then there was a commercial, then there was more walking, then another commercial, then more walking! Well, I think the character reached his destination and briefly did something in the middle of that second segment, but it was mostly walking. And then the same thing happened again later in the movie, with two people this time, except they didn't have any kind of conversation, just walked endlessly! Seriously, they could've cut at least 20% of the film's running time without losing a single plot point or line of dialogue.

I think it was called The Alien Encounters.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008) had metallic-looking orbs that carried selected organisms to survive Earth's expected destruction.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Ravage vomiting metallic balls that transformed into well, not even sure which decepticon that was

Does the Death Star count as a spinning floating metallic orb? [No, that's too big - someone]

How about the little sparring partner Luke had on the Falcon in Star Wars?

That could be Christopher. I didn't see it all the way through, but remember aliens in tight purple suits, ( somewhat like Eldrad from Hand of fear), covering with even the faces covered doing things to people on a table in their ship.

Starman - Didn't he have little silver spheres that were consumed when he did things of a "supernatural" nature?

I don't remember that from the movie I'm thinking of.

I think so, yes. Except in the TV series he only had the one sphere that did everything for him -- his version of the sonic screwdriver.

Didn't David Bowie's character in Labyrinth use those little orbs to cast spells and such?

Those were glass rather than metal, but yes. Juggler Michael Moschen (pronounced "motion," fittingly) was well-known for his remarkable skill at manipulating glass spheres with his hands, and so that was incorporated into the movie, with Moschen's arms and hands standing in for Bowie's (i.e. sticking through his armpits from behind, with the cut of the outfit making it look like they were Bowie's arms) and performing the sphere manipulations. Which made it harder than usual for him, because he couldn't see his hands except on a video monitor.

The Arrival
I’ve been trying to find the more companion-like orb in a movie I thought Charlie Sheen was in, but after watching Arrival, again, that wasn’t it.The sphere I thought I saw was like an assistant. Was sheen in more than one or did I dream the whole thing?
