SANCTUARY--Ashley written out? WHY???

bionicbob

Does anyone know why the character of Ashley was written out of Sanctuary? Been scanning the Net but have not come across any significant articles.

Was is the actor's choice? I know she has been cast on Smallville as Cat Grant.

Or a creative choice by the writers/network?

Personally, I will miss the Ashley character. Hot blonde in black leather firing two guns at once....CLASSIC. Plus her whole backstory being the love child of Magnus and Jack the Ripper is very interesting with still lots of unmined potential.

So far her replacement has not impressed me.

Honestly, I have no clue. I liked Ash, and we were just getting into her having to deal with Druitt as her father. And I cannot stand the snarky new girl, I really [bbs hyperbole engaged] CANNOT STAND HER [bbs hyperbole dis-engaged] :scream::scream::scream:. They dumped Ashley for her? Harump. When you don't want a reset button around, one always seems to be pressed. Now, there's not one in sight. :shifty:

I didn't like Ashley. I don't like the new girl either. In fact, I pretty much gave up on Sanctuary entirely. When I found myself walking away from the show to do other things and not caring about what I missed, it was time to pull the plug.

I liked Ashley, I'm pissed she's gone. I don't like the new girl at all, hopefully she'll grow on me, but she had a crappy introduction to the show so she started off in a hole.

At least they gave her a way to make guest spots or come back eventually with her mysterious fate.

I may be wrong, but I suspect Network shenanigans involved in Ashley's removal.

If you watch the original webisodes, Ashley's character was a lot edgier, darker and angrier. But when the episodes were remade for the Network, they made Ashley's more "spunky", removing much of weight of the character.

So it makes me wonder if the Network wanted further retooling with the character and show?

I'm with you. The new girl...the writing and the acting are trying SO HARD to make this character kewl. And I can't stand it.

I'm seriously pissed that Ash is gone... I really enjoyed her character in season 1 and the new chick is just annoying.

^This. My husband likes the show and that's the only reason why I watch it---to keep him company.

As I described the situation to him on Friday. "Oh, I get it. They replaced the annoying blonde girl with an annoying brunette girl. How exciting." :vulcan:

But isn't Ashley still pictured in the opening title? I assumed this was some type of temporary thing; wouldn't they yank her image from the title if she was gone for good?

The opening title changed this week. It used to end with the trio of Magnus, Will, and Ash...now it's got the 5 regulars-Magnus, Will, Henry, Kate and Druitt, though I thought I still saw Ash's picture in a file photo that was left in. It went by so quick, then the shock of the new quintet at the end hit me.

I have to say, I thought Sanctuary pretty bland right up until the last few episodes of Season 1 (Something about the Concept of the Five really clicked for me.)

The show has this sort of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vibe going for it, and I really started to dig it.

Sadly, while I can understand and even appreciate what it took to axe a main character like Ashley, I think it was a mistake to replace her with the obvious "bad girl gone good"

Lazy writing really.

I'm still pissed that they written her character out in Sanctuary. The new girl is so annoying as hell and it didn't help me that much to grow on her character. It's fatal mistake to write her out, she's the main character in all this, what were they thinking!?!

The funny part is that in the beginning while I found Ash hot as all get out, I also found her annoying as all get out. But as the season went along the character really started growing on me a lot. By the time of her exit scene, I really hated the decision.

The only glimmer of hope is the possibility that if an S3 is granted they might bring the character back. I'd really love to see her return.

Still no word on why this decision was made? Network Interference? Fan Response?

It killed a lot of story arc momentum they'd built up.

There had to be some issue with the actress because the 2 characters are practically the same. Ass kicking girl who doesn't always follow the rules. I don't care for the new girl at all. It's nit picky but I hate the way she dresses. I feel like I'm back in 1992.

This show is starting to lose me though. For people who are in charge of an ultra-secret worldwide network, they seem to be amazingly incompetent.
