probably the better american-produced jackie chan movies. while i don't think they hold a candle to his hong kong efforts, most of which are probably helped by the fact that he himself is directing the action, which american "buddy-cop" series do you think is stronger?

I prefer Shanghai over Rush Hour -- owen wilson has better screen chemistry with jackie chan than chris tucker does.

We are of similar minds on this topic, watermelony2k. Owen Wilson's comedy style complements Jackie Chan's style much better than Chris Tucker's ever could.

I just liked the Rush Hour series because of the relatively novel (in the 90s) take on Chinese and Black subjectivity. Typically, cop pairings are two white guys or a white guy and a black guy, so it just changed it up for me enough to enjoy the trilogy.

On the flip side, I kind of don't have any interest in the Shanghai series almost for the same reason.

And yes, I can't enjoy movies for the sake of enjoying them anymore.

I agree that I prefer the Shanghai series. Owen Wilson has such a great deadpan delivery. "What in our entire history makes you think I'm even capable of something like that?"

I also prefer the Shanghai series. He had much better chemistry with Owen Wilson, and frankly, I find Chris Tucker's voice very hard to take.

I love the "Rush Hour" movies. That being said, I love the "Shanghai" movies a little more. :D
