With this movie opening over the next few days. I'm seeing the movie tomorrow night.

I'm honestly not looking forward to this one too much. The only Planet of the Apes movie that I've seen is the remake with Mark Wahlberg, so I don't have a lot of interest in the franchise as a whole.

Looks great. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I'll probably check it out this weekend.

A few months ago I wanted to see this ironically, but recent reviews have caused me to do a 180 and now I actually really want to see this.

You haven't seen the 1968 original yet? It's still a terrific movie. YMMV when it comes to the sequels, but see the original.

well, the good news is that you've watched the worst of the series first.

Maybe some day, but I'm not in a rush. The whole concept doesn't interest me all that much, and since I already know the big twist at the end, I see no real reason to watch it.

How can you judge an entire franchise based on one simple retarded remake?

When I was younger, I remember loving the entire franchise - but, of course, the original 1968 film was always the best, even before I actually gained some taste as I continued to mature. It was my second-ever "complete collection," just after Star Wars original trilogy VHS tapes (the last, pre-Special Edition release).

In other words: I'm really looking forward to seeing this film, even though I haven't watched anything but the 1968 original in years.

Indeed! I'm going ape-shit for this movie; I love the original 1968 film, and this looks like an origin story that fits the mold of the original premise. Next to Harry Potter, it's the summer movie I've been waiting for the most.

As to when I'll get to see it, the schedule is always fluctuating...

From the reviews, it sounds like they actually made a smart and interesting film here. Wow.

I'm a huge fan of the original (it's like the coolest, most epic Twilight Zone episode ever), but have only seen bits and pieces of the sequels. I guess the first one already felt like such a perfect, self-contained story-- with the best twist ending in movie history-- that I never felt the need to see the story continue.

Seeing how that all started though seems like it could be interesting.

I'm amazed (in a good way) that this movie even got funded. I thought smart, big budget sci-fi was dead.

I am planning to see it... probably not this weekend, but soon. I am optimistic, but also a realist. Nothing will ever hold the weight that the 68 original did... and, to be honest, while I enjoy most of the successor tales (save for Marky Mark's remake), they can't hold a candle to Heston in the original.

I'm not. I didn't have any interest in the franchise before I saw that one retarded movie either.

Minimal experience with the original franchise (I vaguely recall seeing a bit of one of the sequels on Space years ago), but the movie looks interesting (surprisingly; when it was announced I had pegged it as a tired retread).

Plus, I really like Freida Pinto.

I'm looking forward to this too. The origin story is what has me interested. Like RoJo, I've only seen the Wahlberg movie, so I don't know if an origin story has already been done in one of the other movies.

Essentially, the origin was done ala revisionist history in Escape, Conquest and Battle, the major difference being that the time-table for the apes coming into dominance was greatly sped up by the leadership of Zira and Cornelius' offspring. In their original history, it took something like 500 years until an ape revolt occured - and even that was a retcon, because in the original movie, the apes didn't know that their ancestors were once kept as pets, then servants, and finally slaves.

So this is probably an origin that lines up better with the original Heston film, IMO. I just hope that the film offers an explanation for how the apes manage to take over the entire world, and not just San Fran.

Perhaps the nuclear holocaust occurs at the very end?
