Risa, location???

fungun

I have read in many places, that the home star for Risa, is Epsilon Ceti B. Although this has never been seen or heard in any episode that I know of.
Wouldn't it make more sense to have Risa closer to Sol?
In a system that has a much more seperated binary pair.
Can anyone think of maybe some specific clues as to Risa's location?

Thanks,
Tim

Given that Archer's ship visited Risa, it couldn't be too far away from Earth.

Early on Vulcans have been there too, a younger T'Pol track down and killed Jossen on Risa.

The Star Charts book placed Risa at Epsilon Ceti due to the frankly poor assumption that NX-01 started her first-season adventures from Earth - even though "Broken Bow" is pretty explicit in that the adventures began from the Klingon star system instead, a system that later in the show is revealed to have been the "capital system" Qo'noS.

Supposedly, Archer's adventures took him at least 130 ly from Earth during the first two seasons ("Dead Stop"), leaving a wealth of options for the location of Risa (but suggesting that Romulans lay those 130 ly from Earth, since "Dead Stop" is a sequel to "Minefield"). Yet Archer wasn't trying to get as far out as possible, or at least he never indicated such a mission goal. Rather, he might have well been zigzagging in the unexplored volume of space between Earth and Qo'noS for much of that time, making Epsilon Ceti or some other "southeasternly" star a good candidate for Risa.

Let's remember that the ship rather effortlessly spanned the 50 ly from Earth to the Delphic Expanse in just seven weeks. She could have gone much farther than 130 ly if she really wanted during the first two seasons. Still, the visit to Risa comes just two episodes before that 130 ly reference, in the middle of episodes that indicate our heroes are within the zones of influence of both Vulcans and Klingons. Some Cetus star might thus be all right for our purposes, but Epsilon Ceti is actually a bit too close...

The reason for confusion

Risa was a popular tourist destination in the Alpha Quadrant since at least the 22nd century. (ENT: "Two Days and Two Nights") Memory-Alpha http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Risa
It was the second planet in orbit of Epsilon Ceti B in the Epsilon Ceti star system in the Beta Quadrant, or the third planet in the Granicus system in the Alpha Quadrant[2]. (ST reference: Star Charts; ST roleplay module: Worlds) Memory-Beta http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Risa
orbiting a multiple star in the same sector as Starbase 12, / It lies at least 6 hours in a Runabout from station Deep Space 9. StarTrek.com http://www.startrek.com/database_article/risa

Kind of hard to get a handle on it with info like that. LOL
I like your reasoning Timo. But do we look in the Alpha or Beta quad. That seems to be where I'm stuck.

Thanks,
Tim

I'd like to argue in favor of Star Charts in that the Klingons lie "southeast" of Earth, while the Romulans lie "east". Archer's adventures would largely take place in the triangle between those three empires, a triangle where Vulcan also sits and runs its little interstellar "soft empire".

And everything "east" of Earth is Beta Quadrant by the traditional (if somewhat ambiguously supported) definition...

Maybe they renamed Wrigley's Pleasure Planet.

I wondered that but then the name is only heard in TOS which post-dates Enterprise... It might have been a fun throwaway line if Ensign Wrigley had got to prepare the ship's log.

Yeah, Risa is Risa again in the 24th century, so apparently that didn't stick. Which is quite inappropriate for a planet named "Wrigley's".

The true location of Risa is my back yard. Much action, adventure, pleasure and romance have taken place there.
