RIP Carol Ann Susi aka "Wolowitz' Mother" on The Big Bang Theory

Carol Ann Susi passed away this morning.

I found out a few hours ago when a friend who worked with Ms. Susi confirmed that she did, sadly, pass away this morning:

I just heard that Carol Ann Susi, "Mrs. Wolowitz" from THE BIG BANG THEORY, died this morning. I had the privilege of working with her a couple of times at workshops, and I'm so grateful to have spent even a brief amount of time with her. She was a gracious, funny, warm woman who didn't take no shit from nobody. I'm so grateful to get to carry a bit of her humor and badass ferocity with me.

Say what you want about The Big Bang Theory as a series; her recurring role as Howard Wolowitz's screaming mother may have been a one-note gag for the show, but I always found it amusing.

She's never been on camera, so they just need someone to do the voice. Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) has already shown she can do the voice. They just pre-record the lines and they're golden.

That's what I thought at first as well. Once I thought about it more I bet they honor the actress by having the character pass away rather than having someone else do it.

There a Comic-Con video out there somewhere of Melissa Rauch doing a dead-on impression of Mrs. Wolowitz.

I don't know that they could have the character die. Howard would be devastated, and what would Stuart do? Not much comedy there.

I guess we'll see.

Sad news. Though never seen, she was certainly the catalyst to a lot of funny scenes on the BBT. RIP.

I don't know that they could have the character die. Howard would be devastated, and what would Stuart do? Not much comedy there.

If done right, it could make for a spectacular tribute to the character and actress. It's been probably about 30 years, but I still remember how well done the Chief's exit was on Gimme a Break. John Ritter's series continued after his passing as well.

It's up to the producers to decide. They could continue the character with Melissa providing the voice. They could let the character pass away. Or, they could have Stuart break up with her, and have her be the next Richie Cunningham's brother, never to be seen or heard from again.

I heard about this earlier today. Very sad news, she was hilarious.
It will be interesting to see what they do with her character.
