[Rage Of The Technical] Aluminum...

I loved Periodic Table studies in high school and university. Particularly the Electron orbital sorting. I still have an insanely detailed, polymer sealed Periodic Table in my room lol.

What the fuck is this "Aluminum" you people are talking about?

LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH.

It's Aluminium. Atomic number 13, chemical symbol "Al". There is NO element called "Aluminum". :brickwall:

Actually, maybe this "Aluminum" IS an alloy. An alloy of Aluminium and something else.

Angry much?

At the ignorance of stupid people, yeah.

Aluminum is an accepted form. Link

While I too prefer to use aluminium, I won't go out calling people stupid because they write it with just one i.

It'd be a totally different issue if for example people were to call The Netherlands Holland. :klingon:
Imho it's equal to calling Canadians Americans.

Oy, an alloy is the thing between two flats. Ya know, where some bloke sticks some cold metal into ya ribs and takes your shillings.

Iron is a metal. Carbon is a non-metal. So what is steel? :)
Technically, carbon is a metaloid.

Yes, pure aluminum is not an alloy. It is a metal and an element. Is there such a thing as an aluminum alloy? Of course. But it isn't pure aluminum.

As for aluminium/aluminum - both are valid and acceptable in different places. There's nothing ignorant about using one over the other. Its the same damn metal. Moreover, aluminum came first.

My frustration comes from people telling me it's not a metal and when I gently correct them they get all pissed and cite the digital chatterbox as a source.

Nothing you can do about those kind of people, sadly, except apply a 2x4 to their heads in the most educating manner possible.
