Fantastic adaptation of Heinlein's: All You Zombies" It is an Aussie film released in the UK in 2014 and the USA in Jan 2015. I've seen no mention of it here after a search and I'm wondering why!? Fantastic film in every regard, and it's easily finding a spot in my top 20 list of the best SF movie of the 2010s.

Decent reviews as well

Predestination received generally positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, a Review aggregator, the film has a score of 84% based on 97 reviews with an average rating of 6.8 out of 10. The critical consensus states "Fun genre fare with uncommon intelligence, Predestination serves as a better-than-average sci-fi adventure -- and offers a starmaking turn from Sarah Snook."[21] The film also has a score of 69 out of 100 On Metacritic based on 28 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[22]

I really enjoyed the movie too. Ethan Hawk was excellent in his role.

It's been a very long while since I read the story last but I don't recall the bomber story line and also I thought the general was a future version of him as well.

I never heard of it before now. A well-reviewed adaptation of Heinlein? I just added it to my Amazon cart.

Maybe they should have kept the original title. Zombies are big now. :rommie:

Shocking, I know. Light years beyond Starship Troopers, this has become one of the best classic story adaptations of all time in my view. We are lucky to have this and The Man in the High Castle extant at the same time!

I think it was good...but that movie re-defines masturbation & homosexuality to a whole new level.

Actually that is probably why they DIDN'T keep the title. A film called All You Zombies...most viewers would expect to see some.

@BobMorton: The thing with the bomber was never in the original story.

As I mentioned in the other thread.

so is it really a paradox? The only thing that gets me is the line at the beginning about the bomber changing dates so they can't catch him.

I'm discovering that this decade already has more movies worth a top 15 list that I usually do on my best SF movies of the decades. It's really a golden age of SF and it shows no signs of quitting, so I've upped it to a top 25 list. While it's difficult to find enough movies for some of the decade lists, I've actually had to leave OFF movies for the 2010s.

As always, this list includes only movies I've seen. These are movies listed based on quality and entertainment value, so I may have some personal favorites I leave off. A serious SF movie done well will rank higher for me (such as Interstellar) but there's plenty of room for a crowd pleaser like Guardians of the Galaxy if the entertainment value is high enough. Predestination is firmly on the former category:

Great movie. We watched it a few months ago, and had no clue what it was really about, so we were all very pleasantly surprised.

Decent list, I'd agree with about two-thirds of it, (I'd have Oblivion and Her much higher, and I certainly wouldn't have Interstellar at #1, though of course we all have our own opinions and personal favorites), but that's not why I quoted it:

I notice that you do not have the movie Coherence listed (a bunch of people get together for a dinner party and then weird stuff happens after a comet passes overhead). This one really flew even further under the radar than Predestination last year. Its a real slow burner, so it's probably not for everyone (lots of talking, no big budget explosions), but as with a lot of movies like this, I would strongly advise going in as ignorant as possible.

We just watched a new movie at the Columbus Sci-Fi marathon 10 days ago called Time Lapse. (Three people find a camera that takes pictures of the future.) The crowd was pretty unanimous in agreeing that it was the hit of the 24-hour marathon.

Other under-the-radar genre movies from the past 12 months that people should watch include stuff like:
-Only Lovers Left Alive (not sci-fi, but this is a gorgeous vampire movie that isn't so much about vampires as it is about people who have been in love for a long long time)
-The Rover (glad I watched this last year before seeing the new Mad Max trailers. Heck, The Rover could very well be set in the early days of the Mad Max universe, before the outback went to total anarchy and insanity)
-Snowpiercer (a pretty neat sci-fi train movie, I liked it, but I've heard some people that really really really liked it, and I'm not quite at that level. Though maybe I went in with too high expectations.)
-The Babadook (great horror movie, but not full of slashers or jumpscares. It has its share of scary moments though. Definitely one of the more thoughtful horror movies of all time.)

Somehow, I still haven't seen Under The Skin or It Follows yet.

Isn't the Babadook with that annoying kid?

Yep, that's the one. I've seen a number of big time horror fans that were extremely disappointed with it. It's seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it type of film, with very little middle ground. (So of course expect the next poster in this thread to declare it was purely average.)

If you're looking for something completely different, there's also What We Do In The Shadows, about the ordinary lives of 3 vampires who live in New Zealand. It works suprisingly well, the people who made the film nailed a lot of the jokes.
