Places you lived in, want to live in...

At how many different places have you lived till now? Do you like moving or do you prefer to stay at a place for as long as possibel...or ever, if theres no reason that forces you to move.
What must the place be like, where you could say, here I stay for the rest of my life if possibel?

For me, as a child I lived at three different places, but all of them, even different towns/ villiages, where very near to each other.

After I moved out, I also lived till now in three different places, in different towns.
However next year I´ll be moving again...and than probably again the year after and then two years after that again.

I like moving, but to the same time its always somewhat sad to leave a place you called home fo a time. Also I find it always a strange thought, that other people live now where I lived, that all the rooms are changed.

The place I could stay in forever would be near the ocean, near to nature and nontheless near to some town. I want to hear the gulls crying, smell wild camonmile in the summer, feel the salty wind on my skin, want to sit near a warm fire in my house with big windows overlooking fields and trees and water and the starlit sky.
I could stay nowhere for longer, without some sort of big body of water nearby. I am born at the coast and grew up there, so waterless areas just are nothing for me... mountains and such surly are nice as well, but the ocean just is the feeling of freedom for me.
However if I stay in that place forever, I need to do some longer traveling now and again, so that I can look forward to come back to my perfect place.

So what about you?

TerokNor

P.S. Of course my perfect place would not only be the place, but also filled with people and animals I love.

Let's see. I was born and raised in the Philippines and now live in California. I have no plans to leave California or live elsewhere (unless I win the lottery), but there are tons of place I'd just like to "visit," like Hawaii, Ireland, England, Rome, etc.

Where I've lived:

When I was born, my family lived in Pasadena, CA. We moved to Azusa, CA when I was 2yo and back to Pasadena when I was 4yo. I moved in with Hubby to Sierra Madre, CA (adjacent to Pasadena). And 10 years ago, we moved to Fresno, CA.

Where I wouldn't mind living:

I've been to San Francisco a number of times, but this last visit, staying in the Russian Hill area, was the first time I could see myself living there. Provided I had the money to buy a place on a somewhat-geologically sound (at least for the area, so a non-in-fill area) hill, with at least 2 parking spaces.

Hawaii's nice, but I'm too pale and sensitive to the sun.

I'd go back to the Pasadena-area, but can't afford it.

ETA: We were up in Oregon last year. VERY beautiful there. I could see us up there. Maybe Washington State.

The places I've lived in? I was born on the East Coast, then moved to another East Coast state until I was 5, when we moved to California. When I was about 8, we moved to another city in California. We maintained a home in Maine, so we spent all our summer up there until I was about 10 or 11. Then, when I was teenager, we moved to Houston, Texas and I lived there for 3 years, until I went to college.

For College, I went back to California (this time south instead of north), and also did a semester abroad--in England. When I graduated, I moved in with my parents in Austin, TX. Now I'm back in the Houston area (about 45 minutes outside of it) in a smaller suburb with Hubby.

So, yeah, I've moved around a BUNCH.

If money were no object, I would definitely MOVE. I don't like the culture or the weather in Southwest Texas. I wouldn't mind going back to Austin, which is far more relaxed and has a more attractive landscape. Plus, my parents and my nephew are there.

If I really could dream big, I'd choose to go to the Pacific Northwest, particularly back to Larkspur, Calif., where I grew up. But there is no way in hell I could ever afford it.

I haven't really lived a ton of places, myself. A reasonable amount, I suppose, considering I'm 23, but nothing incredible.

I was born in Victoria, British Columbia, but my parents moved to Ajax, Ontario (suburb of Toronto) when I was fairly young. A few years later, we moved to Peterborough, Ontario, and I've now lived in Ottawa since moving here for university five years ago.

I spent most of my life in the same area of suburban NJ, four years of which was spent in the Rutgers dorms (but that was just a stones throw away from where I grew up). I spent 2005 living in Vancouver and have lived in Edmonton for the past 4 years.

I would very much like to live in the SF Bay area. Living in SF itself would be nice, but I think I'd be happy just being close enough to spend weekends there. I think I'd quite enjoy living in NYC, or at least nearby, as well as I really miss the easy access to NYC that I had growing up. I didn't really appreciate it until I moved away! Wouldn't mind moving back to Vancouver one day either.

I've really only lived in two places. I was born in New Orleans and my family moved to Colorado Springs, CO when I was two years old. We did move a few times within the city during our 11 years there. When I was 13 we moved back to Louisiana. We lived in a town called Belle Chasse briefly before moving to New Orleans where I live today.

Colorado was nice... good weather, good tap water, nice views... but rather boring really. I love where I live now very much. New Orleans is an awesome city albeit not the easiest one to live in. I enjoy traveling on the rare occasions I get to but I am hoping to spend the rest of my life living in New Orleans. If I had to live somewhere else, Savanna, GA and Boston, MA would be the first places I would consider.

I was born in Los Angeles, and then spent the rest of my youth in the same house in La Canada (which borders Pasadena to the west).

I went to college in Boston for two years. The weather there is awful. I couldn't stand it.

I transferred to Davis, CA (about 10 miles from Sacramento). I have lived in the Sacramento area ever since, except my Junior Year Abroad program, when I lived in Melbourne.

I would go back to Los Angeles in a heartbeat, but my wife won't hear of it.

I've lived in eight cities/towns (Chicago, Houston, New Orleans, Denver, Rantoul IL, Panama City FL, Orlando FL and Clermont FL) and had sixteen different addresses and if I never move again it'll be too soon. That said, I don't really have anything holding me here so if something came up, I'd probably move someplace else as long as I could have professional movers do all the lifting and carrying.

My favorites would probably be Chicago and Denver. To this day I miss the public transportation in Chicago.

I've only lived in Maryland - raised in one town, and then moved to another (about 30 minutes away). I hate the climate in the mid-atlantic and would love to try moving out west somewhere. Southern California seems like it has the ideal climate, but their economy has gone to hell, the cost of living is high, and they have issues with natural disasters (like earthquakes, mud slides, and wild fires). I wonder if someplace like NM, UT or AZ might work for me. I don't mind the heat. I just hate the humidity of the east coast.

I detest moving, but fortunately haven't had to do much of it in my life.

I was born in the States, but my parents moved back to the UK within a year of my birth. I think we briefly lived in some rented accommodation for a few months or so, before they bought a house in the middle of archetypal Greater London suburbia (Surbiton) before moving out a bit further to a nice leafy part of the Home Counties (Surrey) where I lived in the same house from about age 5 until I left to go to university at 18. Dad still lives in that Surrey property.

At university, I stayed at Oxford for 6 years, of which I kept the same room for 3 years, and then spent 6 months in a shared house before renting a flat of my own for the remaining 2.5 years. Then I lived & worked 6 months in Reading, and then 6 months in Northampton before returning to live and work in Oxford ever since. I was lucky to find a nice flat to buy really quickly on my return, and have stayed there ever since. No plans to move out imminently, though maybe in 3-5 years if I find somewhere in the right area of Oxford at the right price. I love this city & its location, and can't see myself leaving it even in the longer term.

I also detest moving ... largely because, between the time I was born and graduated from high school, my parents had moved us to more than 40 houses (mostly rentals.) UGH! Most of these were in and around my home town in Oregon, but I have also lived for a time at the Oregon Coast when I was young; had 2 stints in the San Francisco Bay Area (once as a child and once as an adult); a half dozen places in the town where I went to college (also in Oregon); Ann Arbor, MI; but only 4 places in the 20 years I've lived in the Boston area (4 years during and right after law school; 9 years in Boston; 2 years testing out "the 'burbs"; and now 6 years in the place we bought just outside the city.)

As you can see, I tend to nest these days.

Did I mention that I hate moving?

I was born in Berkeley, and lived in Albany (California, that is) for 3 days, before moving to Pinole, where I've lived, in two different houses, ever since.

Once I'm done with my community college stuff, I plan on applying to the University of Texas, Austin, where I expect to spend about 3-4 years working on my bachelors and masters degrees. Which means I'll have to live there for those 3-4 years, which I wouldn't mind.

I'd also like to live in Washington D.C., particularly because of my preferred career.

I've lived in three different houses in the South Yorkshire village I grew up in, five flats/houses in two Wiltshire towns, three flats in a North Yorkshire town, and finally one house and a flat in a Cambridgeshire town where I've been for the past fifteen years.

I've enjoyed living in all of them, but my home village is frankly a bit crap compared to the rest. I'm very settled where I am - it's a small town, which suits me fine. But I have to say Wiltshire had a little more...something than anywhere else I've lived.

I guess I've lived a fairly boring life in a manner of speaking...

Lived in the same house all my childhood in Wenatchee, Washington, a decent size town in central Washington. Went to the same schools as my parents and older sisters. Moved to Pullman for university, spent vacations still at my parents' home. I did a short study abroad during school where I lived in the burbs of Tokyo for a month, that was fun and I got to see how a REAL public transportation system works.

Moved back in with the parents for a while before I finally landed a job in Seattle. Decided to do another long term study abroad after a while and lived in London on and off for about a year, coming back to Seattle for the longer breaks. Now I'm back to living in Seattle full time since September 2008.

Obviously I've spent most of my life in Washington and frankly I'm ready to get out of here soon. I'm strongly considering the east coast, likely somewhere in new England or mid-Atlantic. Chicago might be nice too, though. I also traveled a lot to DC growing up so I feel like I know that town a bit and I know there's a lot of legal work opportunities in the area.

I like it right where I am which is somewhere in the midwest.I am so glad I finally got out.I did live in Fl for most of my life, and hated the bugs, the weather just everything .

Born: Detroit.
Wyandot, Mich. (near Detroit): toddler.
Oswego, NY (my parents' hometown): around 3 years old.
New Haven, NY: age 17.
Troy, NY: 30.
Village of Waterford, NY: 31.
Schenectady, NY: 36.
Latham, NY: 39.
Back to New Haven: 55. Perfectly happy to be where most of my family and close friends live. Unlikely I'll ever relocate to a permanent new home, but if I ever hit the jackpot, I'll definitely travel a lot!

Born in southern New Hampshire and grew up in the Spingfield/Hartford area. I've lived in Phoenix, Cincinnati and the DC area. I've been in the DC area for the most of my Post-New England years (eight of the past twelve years).

We might be interested in Nashville, San Francisco, Boston or perhaps a bit closer to DC when it's time for us to move on from DC.

^There are days when I wonder what life would be like if I had never left Massachusetts...especially Western Massachusetts. I'm probably better off.
