Phyllis Douglas has died........

Grant

Commodore
Commodore
Two-time TOS alum Phyllis Douglas has died at age 73.

She played the Yeoman in 'Galileo Seven and one of the hippies in 'Way to Eden.'

Also, she is perhaps the only actor from TOS to also appear in 'Gone with the Wind', playing 'Bonnie Blue Butler' at age 2 (uncredited)

Rest in Peace dear girl---you'll always be remembered as the beautiful young yeoman Mears to millions of trek fans.

I always remember her for the moment she launches herself out of the chair to kneel on the floor and shout, "we're moving!" That was so awkward. Picture one of the guys doing that; I just can't.

But once someone is in Star Trek, they are never forgotten; rest in peace, yeoman.

^Ah yes, the famous 'bunny hop'

60s television at its worst. I hate---hate the direction of 'Galileo Seven' (a one-shot director I believe) and I'll bet it was the director who thought it would be good for some reason.

Robert Gist? He was a pretty accomplished director who did a lot of great tv episodes.

I had a little crush on her in 'Galileo Seven' , I loved how pretty and yet tough she was too. I think she was the first women I ever saw in Star Trek weild a phaser when I was younger which is why my wife liked her when she was a kid herself.

Its sad to know she is gone, rest in peace Phyllis and thank you for both episodes.

Geez people, relax...be proud of the fact that she was portrayed as a competant, professional crew-woman. She never screamed or said stuff like "I'm frightened," which was typical at the time. She stood by her post like any of the guys and handled the thing with nerves of steel. So instead of flaming the director for ONE physical motion that a character makes, let's focus on every other detail of the episode that makes it great.

And why are we talking about that, anyway? This should be about Phyllis Douglas, who was one of my favorite "Background TOS People." I did a double-take when I saw the title of this thread and I'm very, very sad that she has passed away. :(

^ How ridiculous to assume i didn't like the direction simply based on the one 'bunny hop' bit. I don't the direction of the entire episode.

It must be fun to make judgements like that though.

Oh and it's not 'flaming the director' when i state I don't like the job he did---it's my opinion.

Learn the meaning of the words you use.

We are honoring the contribution of the actress, but Jeri had a right to mention the annoying hop and i have the right to comment on the director. Don't waste your time telling others what they can or can't mention in a thread.

You really edited your post to make your lecture to me longer? That's actually kinda sad...I'm up for a friendly truce if you are. :)

But shouldn't we be keeping this on topic?

RIP Phyllis Douglas. :(

^Yeah, I guess i did, at that!

But, I kind of thought you were lecturing me.

Yes, a truce is warranted and you are right, the topic should be the young lady.

I kind of wish they had kept her as a permanant replacement for Grace Lee Whitney instead of the 'Yeoman of the week' format they tried for the rest of season one.

I know they wanted to show a lot of pretty girls and all, but I prefer the idea of a second female regular---which Nurse Chapel eventually became.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this thought. It's really a shame it didn't happen.

Oh well. maybe Mears can appear in a future novel one of these days.
