Photo hosting alternatives -or- "I really want my sub album feature back to organize my pics!"

Hello folks,

This may be old hat, but I haven't seen any mention of this doing a search of the site, so I thought I would go ahead and ask- Does anyone know of a site (other than / or like Photobucket) that you can organize photos with sub albums / sub categories? So for instance, if say you had a ton of pictures of planets, and planet textures you wanted to organize, into lets say one for "renders" and the other for "textures" those folders would root off of a folder called "planets" so you could easily find / organize images. And if you know of such a site for hosting images, is it free/is there a cost, and if so, how much? And what has your experience with the hosting service been like? Thanks in advance!

Agreed.

After Photobucket went batshit crazy, I switched to imgur.

Great site.

Second for PostImage. I've been using them for years, and they've always been reliable, free, and easy to use. You can sort your pictures into albums, too.

Well, either they're struggling even more than they were before, or got exactly what they desired by switching their business model. They wanted in on the premium hosting market which had the effect of a) creating a mass exodus b) releasing a number of resources using overhead. What remains to be seen is if their plan has become profitable for them.

Hey all, thanks for the feedback- I too have a Imgur and a PostImage account. Both do the job for sharing and posting images here and elsewhere, I was just hoping there was somewhere/something I missed that would have the organizational features of PB. Maybe someone will hear the pleas of the disenfranchised (lol) ex-PB users and add some features to their image hosting sites to help us nitpicky folks who like their photos to be more usefully organized.

Postimage works well for me.

I wonder how PB is doing?
I recently received several mails that they changed the plans and you can have now one for about 100 USD per year and less space than the bigger that still exists. I think they realized they made a mistake.

That's exactly the feature that kept me with Photobucket through that initial period of heavy, slow running scripts and ads. Eventually, I tired of it. Then they pulled their "screw you" bit and that was the last straw.

I'm using both Imgur and PostImg.org. PostImg is terrific. Very lightweight. I wish it had sub-folders. If it did, I'd contribute funds to them. So... you just have to get creative with folder naming conventions. But the link features make up for it. I don't know of another site that generates thumbnail code so quick/easy.

Photobucket did that too at one point. What attracted me to Postimage was that it resembled the photobucket from before it had gotten all bloated. There was a time when it was actually fairly lean and no nonsense.

Unfortunately, PostImage photo sharing site (PostImg.org) just had a major domain name fiasco with the ICANN registry. They had to redirect all image references to Postimg.cc. New top level domain. SUCKS big time. All my older images are broken now. If you can edit the post, all you need to do is change "org" to "cc", but most posts are too old to be editable. And frankly, who can be bothered hunting around for all of the links.

Anyway, this has been going on for a couple of weeks now. I'm thinking I'll switch to using Imgur as the primary...

Gah. Thanks for the heads-up Gary7. This is very disappointing, and like you I think I'm going to switch to using Imgur as the primary. I hate having to go relink all my posts, but I don't nearly have as many links to do that with as a lot of other folks do. I guess I'll count my blessings so to speak and consider myself lucky.

Yeah, I guess Postimage was too good to be true. I find myself needing an image host less and less, but I suppose if I were to need one, I'd have to use imgur.

They still work just fine, it's just they're dealing with an ICANN issue. Hopefully it will be resolved, but all of my images still work, even though I go to postimg.cc to upload.

Yeah, I sent them an email and haven't heard back yet... wanting to know how much longer this registrar issue will take to resolve. The good thing is that the URL change doesn't completely mangle older URL's. Just "org" --> "cc". So once they resolve the registrar problem, they should all be fine. Hopefully all images uploaded since this will work with the "org" top level domain as well.

Thing is, I really like the PostImg.org interface, more so than Imgur. They did a nice job with it. Would be a shame to have to abandon this.

I can see all of my stuff on PostImage's main site (.org), but I can't see anything I'd previously posted here. I'd hate to have to switch again.
