Peter Weller’s reps confirm he’s joining the cast of JJ Abrams’ Star Trek sequel, in what is a principal role but one they would not specify. Weller, best known in feature scifi circles for his iconic role as Robocop has been busy as a director, and for acting stints on 24, Dexter, Fringe and Psych. Paramount will release the Star Trek sequel May 17, 2013. Alice Eve and Benicio Del Toro are likely to take part, joining the returning original cast that is headed by Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. Who should Weller play? Paramount and Abrams spent the weekend knocking down a speculative report Del Toro would play the Kahn role that Ricardo Montalban played in the original Star Trek series and the 1982 feature film. Weller’s repped by APA and BMP.

Awesome! Peter Weller's great. Loved Odyssey 5, and he was great in Enterprise's "Demons"/"Terra Prime" two-parter.

I love me some Weller. Rumor has it that he'll be playing Dr. Banzai. ;)

Okay, does nobody know how to spell "Khan"? Now they're getting it wrong in published news articles?

(Not the main point, I realize, but it drives me nuts that 3/4's of the world seems to think it's spelled "Kahn," not Khan as "Genghis Khan" or "Kublai Khan.")

Blame Madeline Kahn. ;)

Re: Peter Weller joins Star Strek Sequel cast

Interesting. Is he the first person, apart from Leonard Nimoy obviously, to appear in a prime-timeline story and nu-Trek?

I recently made the mistake of watching 'Leviathan' and he was the only good part of the movie :p

There have been several, depending on what you consider "counts".

Wil Wheaton and Majel Barrett had voice overs.

Greg Ellis and W. Morgan Sheppard had speaking and somewhat memorable roles in the film.

Richard Arnold, Anna Katarina, and Christopher Doohan, if those count, all had cameo appearances.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are others.

Be funny if Chris Pine landed the role of Robocop in that remake, as has been rumoured.

Edit - and thank you all for clarifying the 'first actor' query.
