New series on Netflix starring Jason Bateman as a money launderer who has pissed off his cartel employers, narrowly avoiding being sealed in a barrel of acid by making huge promises he can't possibly live up to, about the uptapped criminal potential of the Ozarks to clean dirty drug money.

All does not go as planned.

:)

Half way through, quite enjoying myself.

Jason Bateman has needed a decent, proper gig for some time now.

He's been wasted on a lot of dross since Arrested

This is queued up after The OA

And let's be fair... Season 1 of Breaking Bad was Breaking Bad Light (UK Version)

Who predicted where that sucka spiralled to

Hugo - their goddamn MINERALS, Marie!!

Instead of starting a new thread for Season 2, perhaps dusting this one off is less painless.

The second season dropped on Netflix last week. Is anyone else watching besides me? *crickets*

The second season was pretty much a straight forward continuation of the 1st. I've watched the whole thing and found it highly entertaining. If you we're not thrilled with the 1st. season, the second will be 'more of the same' for you.

Anyone else watching?

Bueller?
Bueller?

I've watched up to the funeral episode. It's interesting, but I'm not sympathetic to the Byrdes. I want them to pay for the lives they are destroying.

I'm about 3 episodes into S2, I really like it but it is hard to feel much sympathy for anyone, except maybe Ruby and her cousins. Not sure I'd call it Breaking Bad lite because it's pretty damn dark and intense, if anything Good Girls is Breaking Bad lite (which isn't meant to be derogatory as I loved S1 of Good Girls but it's definitely lighter in tone than BB or Ozark)

I'm wrapping up the last episode tonight, but my initial reaction is, taken as a given that lightning is almost impossible to catch in a bottle a second time, season two has kept my interest but for a few eye rolling moments here and there. I will say too many strings are hanging out there, and not really tied up, but rather severed with a high death count. I'll see where the finale takes me, but I quite enjoy the series, even though I'm not sure enough impetus exists for a third season.

As a follow-up: It would take a really good stable of writers to continue Ozark for a season 3, and even then where does the visceral element come from? Seems like the ending was a perfect one to be continued in the mind of the viewer. Unless there's a flash forward and reboot. A worthy effort, truly Breaking Bad lite, in terms of potential duration. But interesting nonetheless.

^ Season 3 could focus on Marty holding on to some semblance of decency and humanity while Mamma Bear is in full free fall, becoming the next Heisenberg. She's gotten a taste of real power and likes it, screwing over and ultimately controlling her political 'ally' and then removing Ruby's problematic Dad. With the hanging FBI thread, always present Cartel thread and then the KC mob, there's plenty of material to work with.

Any news on a Season 3 renewal?

Q2

I have two more to watch, and there are some parts where I have to suspend disbelief to accept they get away with things they probably wouldn't be able to.

Nice to see hard ass Ruth show some vulnerability to round out her character, if only if it were for better reasons.

I'm thinking a bit of a time jump might be in order, or maybe the #1 ranked cartel comes knocking, or both. A Queen of the South motif might be okay if the actress has the chops to pull it off. Every time she smiles takes me back to The Truman Show! They will need a powerful new antagonist though, whether it be FBI or cartel, or both. Crossing fingers for a season 3.

Seen to the end now!

Judging by the targeting of Marty's offices it looks like S3 will see Marty in the middle of a war between the cartel and the Kansas City mob, I also wonder if the FBI will refocus their interests once they
find Petty's body?

Everyone in this is so good, but damn if Laura Linney and Julia Garner don't knock every scene out of the park! Wendy's genuinely starting to scare me a little now. It's also interesting to see Marty becoming more emotional as she becomes more ruthless.

Season 3 will also still have a Snell related obstacle, plus it would be interesting to see how Wyatt and Ruth's relationship goes.

The only thing I felt disappointed by was
Petty's demise (always assuming he is dead, though it'd be a hell of a rug pull if he survived that.)

If anything I liked S2 more than S1 so I'd be up for another season.

I'm three episodes into the last season. I like it enough to finish it, but will definitely never rewatch it.

It's kind of funny the way Wendy is acting. "How dare my son not accept that murdering people is okay?!"

Wendy's "ends justify the means" utopian vision (she thinks she's going to "reform" the Midwest with her corrupt drug money) borders on monomania but, I guess, that's the whole point.

That being said (and I'm only three eps in as well), I'm little surprised she hasn't already told the kid (or had the daughter tell him) "at this point you really think you can't be next?"

I was surprised that this show got a 3rd season, let alone a 4th. By the end of the second season, I didn't feel it was all that great. At this point, I'm watching to see how it will all catch up with them.

While I apparently enjoy the show more than you do, I think people on a Star Trek message board can all easily agree that whether or not a show is renewed has less to do with quality and more to do with viewers.

Yeah, I mean don't get me wrong, it's a watcheable show, but I constantly see the comparisons to Breaking Bad and I don't see it.

There’s big differences in character motivation. Marty wants out, Walter wanted to be the boss. Skylar didn’t know for the first two seasons, then wanted out and only got in out of hope Walter would die before her son found out. Wendy knew from the start and is into it.

Two families that started from the same place, got in a similar situation and approached it two very different ways.

The most rootable character is Ruth.
