I created this thread for discussing ramifications of timeline divergence in ENT era, following all the way until 2600-s. Based on my Star Trek New Horizons playthrough (still very much ongoing), but retcons can be done if necessary.
Why is it called an "Organian" or "Protectorate" timeline? Because UFP had lost a war against Klingon Empire very early in their history (war beginning in 2171 and ending in less than 5 years, ending with crushing defeat of Starfleet and sector defense fleets), and signing of treaty that effectively made UFP client state of Klingon Empire, happened at Organia system. Over following decades "Federation" and "United" part of the name became less and less of a thing before sometime in 23rd century UFP was (well, it has yet to happen in playthrough, but I am already getting there) formally reorganized into Terran Protectorate (with massive societal shifts gradually occurring before the formal renaming and reorganization happened). By that point Member Worlds of the original UFP were out of Federation Council for more than half-century (due to disruptive terms of the treaty), and United Earth had no choice but to do everything alone. It did not help in the slightest that United Earth government (de-facto the only government of UFP by the point of reorganization) was forced to pay tribute to Klingons (initially in raw resources, but later had to share some of their tech in exchange for less constrained diplomacy), and their participation of Klingon military ventures made mandatory.
Consequences of this "subjugated" state will no doubt shape history for centuries to come, with immediate consequence being far more militarized and paranoidUFP Terran Protectorate by the time Klingon yoke is thrown off and gone. While it has yet to happen in my playthrough (Klingon navy still dwarfs Starfleet both by raw numbers and total firepower), there already is a significant militarization efforts going on, with aim to eventually overthrow Klingon control and not only win back the freedom, but also ensure that similar episodes of subjugation will never happen to Protectorate members ever again.
On miscellaneous note, Section 31 got all the formal funding they wanted in the first years post-Organian treaty, and by the time of throwing off Klingon yoke was one of the leading secret services in Alpha and Beta quadrants. Massively increased surveillance paired with heavy restrictions of personal freedoms in formal democracy post-Organian Treaty is another point of divergence (and when paired with allowing eugenics out of desperation, it can and will draw confused glares from Prime timeline characters. Although truth to be told, genetic manipulation won't really took off until after Terran Protectorate would be established). Another long-term consequence will be heavy focus on the military, completely shedding off pacifism following the treaty and eventually embracing militarism in first quarter of 23rd century.
While story I intend for Terran Protectorate is one of overwhelming industrial and military might (while being heavily paranoid and for good reason), there still exist obstacles in-game that I am aware of. And I am open to hearing other interpretations of how the story would go realistically (or idealistically, depending on the speaker). It should be obvious that this is a Terran-adjacent AU, starting off with usual Prime timeline stuff (minus Earth-Romulan war) only to be thrown heavily off-rails (and very close to Mirror stuff) by Klingon invasion and subsequent subjugation of newly formed UFP (which didn't had the time nor resources for building large enough fleet to repel Klingon navy). And yes, Klingon Civil War did not happen in this timeline either, allowing for such divergence in the first place.
Let the discussion begin.
