Need help with Star Trek TNG: A Final Unity

Hi guys,

I'm new here so I just want to say a big "Hi" to everyone. OK, onto the question.

I recently purchased Star Trek The Next Generation: A Final Unity and I have Windows XP. Now I know that there was a post on this game already so I hope that you don't mind me posting this. The game works fine on my computer up to the last level. In this section, Pentara, Picard and the Chodak Admiral find the key and then it crashes. At first, I thought that it might be the CD so I cleaned it and it still crashes. I did download Dosbox but I find that hard to use.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Do you know of a way to help me overcome this problem? Any help you can give would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for reading this.

I remember that it crashed at that point even back in the day in MS DOS. Can't remember how I solved it, though.

Wish i could help, all i have is the gameplay manual, all i can say is it would probibly work on my computer, my computer is like 10 years old.

OK, thanks guys for your posts and help. Are there any saves on the 'net that would allow me to get past this? It really is annoying and I'm becoming quite irked by the constant crashing because I absolutely adore this game and rank it as one of the top Star Trek games of all time.

If anybody else has anything to add, please feel free to post something.

I played it through a year or so ago, fairly stable and with no crash at the end,but I don't remember it working straight in XP, maybe it was the sound that glitched. I did a lot of searching and used the method where you copy the entire CD onto the hard drive, and I think I did use VDM sound and/or DosBox.

I vaguely recall that I got so far but I because didn't have Data on my landing party we missed some vital info on a computer console. Troi helpfully suggested that we fly into Romulan space so we could look at the star as it was years ago but I kept dying (pesky Romulans). In the end I got my brother involved to kill the Romulans and that crashed the game. Data is fast enough to get the info from the console before it dies. That's all I remember about the plot!

Thanks, guys, for all your help. I think I will try it on a different computer and see if it works and if it doesn't, then I will leave it because I am getting Elite Force 2 in a few days anyway.

Thanks again though.

E.T.
