Nana Visitor/Kira Nerys

On my current run-through of my DS9 DVD's I am finding myself with a growing appreciation of Nana Visitor as an actor and Kira Nerys as a character.

I am continuously impressed with her performances.

Amongst the best on the show, in my current opinion.

Agreed, Nana Visitor did an excellent job IMO. Originally supposed to be Michelle Forbes as Ensign Ro, actually I'm glad we got to see the talents of Nana Visitor from the start. She grew the character of Major Kira into perhaps the strongest female character on Trek.

^ I agree Kira is the strongest female character in TREK just in front of Janeway. Also I forogt how good looking she was too

Would have perferred Ro Laren, but pretty satisfied with what we got. :) Just watched "Necessary Evil" today (following the series on Virgin), and yep, Kira is good.

I think Nana Visitor is much like Brooks in that she is a good actress when she is not required to "flip out". When Nana Visitor flips out and starts yelling then her performance always becomes amatuerish and unbelievable in view. Ditto for when Nana Visitor cries.

Definitely wouldn't say she's one of the best on DS9. In my view everyone on the show except for Brooks, Siddig, and Farrell are much better actors that Nana Visitor. But, Nana Visitor is a much better actress than Terry Farrell.

Nana is excellent. I love her acting range -- she can effectively play a person who is angry, sad, fearful, playful, joyous, sexy, and saucy. Unlike Farrell.

She's my absolute favourite, and I love her acting! I always liked the way she cried.... and she's absolutely gorgeous and captivating. Kira is definetly my girl crush.

I like Nana Visitor as Kira Nerys. Kira is a wonderful character in the Trek universe. I enjoy Dax/Terry Farrell too. I think they both portray their characters very well.

It was a very fortunate turn of events for Michelle Forbes to turn down the chance to be part of DS9. It led to the far superior and appropriate character of Kira being created. Nana Visitor is a fine actress, although since we don't get Wildfire in the UK, I haven't seen her in anything since DS9 ended.

Re:My evaluation

Overrated. She was annoying and naggy at times with an annoying voice and a screwy face and her self-rightseous "the propthets are real" attitude grated on this secular humanist. And that's just Nana Visitor, don't get me started on Kira!

I think she grew as an actress over the run. She seemed to mature as her character her did, making her a much better actress.

The "Prophets" were real.

The Bajoran faith was entirely based on fact.

Entirely real in a physical and spiritual sense. The Prophets sent Orbs, gave visions and destroyed and entire fleet of Dominion ships. What could be more real? I wonder if the Bajorans ever debated Evolution and "Intelligent Design?"

Well, it was never implied that the Bajorans were "created" by the Prophets in a biological sense. So I would think that they did evolve. The Prophets appeared to be more like some kind of alien force that for whatever reason had attached themselves to Bajor and the Bajorans.
