My Past Convention Pictures (2004-2014)

I went to several conventions (don't remember exactly how many), mainly in the Dallas area between 2004 and 2014. I eventually quit though, mostly because they've become so expensive and I'm on a pretty tight budget. But anyway, enough complaining - I figured some folks here might be interested, in seeing some pics of the various celebs I met during that time (including a few from "Star Trek"). So, check these out, and feel free to let me know what you think.

Cool pics! I’d love to meet Marina Sirtis and hear her soothing voice in real life. I’d need to be sitting down to avoid injury when I faint.

Thanks; I'm glad you like them. The only reason I wasn't in the shot with Lea Thompson, is she wouldn't let me. I think it may have been some kind of contract issue, but she didn't elaborate. She was still very sweet to me, though.

As for Marina, she was one of the first (if not the first) "Star Trek" actors I had met. If you look carefully, you might notice I was doing my best to actually avoid looking at her. This wasn't from disrespect - I was simply distracted by her dress' low neckline. I'd seen most "TNG" episodes multiple times by then, and all four films. I certainly didn't remember her being that...shall we say, "gifted"? I didn't want to insult her, or come across as a pervert, so I figured looking away was the only alternative.

Kenny Baker and Tony Todd are my favorite ones.
Kenny was very quiet, which surprised me since he'd been fairly chatty on the "Empire of Dreams" documentary. As for Tony, I knew he was well-known from the "Candyman" movies, but I never saw any of them. I mainly knew him from "The Crow", and an early episode of "Smallville". When I referred to his character on the show as a "meteor freak" (the writers' term, not mine), he didn't seem offended, just surprised. Just before we took the picture, he playfully said to me, "I'm a meteor freak." :)

This isn't technically related to my pictures "per se", but it didn't seem necessary to start a whole new thread for it. I created it as more of an "illustration", regarding two experiences I had, completely unanticipated at celebrity conventions in 2004 and 2006. I did not record this to attack, shame, or hate on anyone - I'm just trying to tell other fans they need to manage their expectations when attending such an event. With that in mind, I hope you are properly informed. :)

She's very outspoken and funny, I get the impression she really enjoyed being the sarcastic ironic Brit among Americans while Patrick held up the other stereotype. She's probably been my favourite TNG cast member to meet.

OP is right about how expensive these things have become - some "names" command £200 for a picture and then the same again for a meet and autograph. Absurd.

Yeah, Mark Hamill has wanted $400 just for his autograph, since God only knows how long. There is no way at all, that I am ever paying that much. I respect him as an actor, and he seems reasonable in interviews, but to me asking that much if frickin' insane.

I've just been looking at the Cameo website which I've never used before but was curious to see if Kate Mulgrew or Marina Sirtis are on there. I can't see them listed but there are lots of other Trek actors who are although looking at some previews it doesn't look like they speak in character so maybe there are contractual reasons for that. I'd love a personal greeting by Seven or The Doctor.

If they ever start doing videos of short scripts submitted by the public I'd pay to hear Harry and Tom record one together. So many possibilities!

The first time I attended a convention featuring Todd, the locale was slightly smaller than usual. As a result, he literally seemed to be following me everywhere I went. You can imagine the effect that might have on a person.

That's only reasonable when you recall he was paid an entire million bucks for staring for 30 seconds in a concluding cameo, while snagging second billing for it.

He's been asking that much though, since long before the sequels were made. Also, he made it very clear that much more of Luke was originally filmed for "The Force Awakens", but for whatever reason J.J. Abrams decided to cut it. And then when crazy Kathleen Kennedy brought Rian Johnson into the mix, the two of them just wrecked the whole thing.
