Music on iPod Classic Magically Disappeared- Help!!

I have a classic iPod and I put it into my computer to charge. It didn’t sync or anything when I plugged it into my computer. When I unplugged my iPod and looked at it, all of the files were off of my iPod (music, stuff from iTunes U, etc.). I know they were there earlier today 'cause I listened to my iPod without any problems!

Does anyone have any clue what happened or how I can get my files back? When I replugged my iPod into my computer, it said “if you are experiencing problems with your iPod, you can restore its original settings by clicking Restore.” I don’t want to do that… I just want my files back!

I just restarted my computer and also let my iPod rest (while it was turned off) for like 5 minutes. When I turned everything back on, opened up my iTunes and plugged in my computer, I got this message:

iTunesError.jpg

I just clicked "Continue Without Scanning" 'cause I didn't know what would happen to my files if I let iTunes "fix" my iPod. I then got the following message:

NewiTuneserror-1.jpg

What do I do???? FYI, you will see in the pics that I erased something in the error box. It is just my name... I prefer that you would all call me Ro Laren!

A couple of other things you could try are resetting the iPod, and/or plugging it into an external power source before trying it in your computer again.

If, when you replug the iPod back again in the computer, you again get that message prompt: "Do you want to scan and fix?" pop out, just click "scan and fix", and that should probably get everything back in order. You don't have to worry about iTunes messing anything up, because it's just Windows trying to fix any corrupt files. Hope that does the trick. Fingers crossed.

^"Everyone thinks they have good taste and a sense of humor, but they can't all be right, can they?"

Besides, the "Slumdog Millionaire" soundtrack is pretty sweet.

Unfortunately, I live overseas so I don't think that is going to work.

I've did a Google search on this option and many people complained that they lost all or most of their files when they tried this. It scares me 'cause I don't have all my music on the iTunes on my computer. And, since I live overseas I don't have access to all the music on my CD's (which I of course left in the US).

Looking at those screenshots, I reckon this is an excellent opportunity for you to repair your taste in music.

I have (or had) all sorts of different types of music. It is an eclectic mix, but since my iPod has 160 GB of storage I didn't have to be picky when I put music on it.

I don't understand...why would living overseas make a difference? Because of the different outlets? Does Apple not sell ipod adapters that are specific to regions other than North America? If not, you can get outlet adapters.

You can still try resetting your iPod at least.

^ I thought I had read somewhere that it can be dangerous to plug in some type of electronics overseas even if you use a convertor and adapter.

By resetting my iPod, do you just mean restoring it to the factory settings? Meaning my files will definitely be permanently lost?

^No, not to factory settings, just resetting by holding down the center key and the play key on the wheel for about 10 seconds. The iPod should restart and no files should be lost (as long as your iPod's harddrive is okay -- but if it's a harddrive problem, you're screwed). As for the plugging in danger, I've never heard of that before. I'd imagine a problem could occur if the power supplied by the outlet is significantly more than your iPod could handle, but it seems highly unlikely to me. I charged my iPod in India for a month, and in Amsterdam during a layover, and never had a problem. Sounds like an urban myth, but I could be wrong.

India and Amsterdam, figures

Indeed? What have you gleaned about my personality by the simple fact that I've visited India and had a layover in Amsterdam? That I'm a new-agey hippie? A backpacker? A druggie? Does my visit to those places fit well with your preconceived ideas of my lifestyle based on my tattoos?

Or maybe you used your brilliant inductive reasoning skills to reach the truth: that my disabled mother required life-saving surgery, the specialist was in Mumbai, and the cost of the operation was over $20,000 cheaper in India, even accounting for the travel and hotel expenses; that, due to her disabilities, my mother was incapable of making the plans or the trip on her own, and required me to arrange it and to accompany her; that, while I did get to enjoy some of the culture in Mumbai, I spent most of my time in India in a hospital near Gandhi National Forest; and that the majority of my time in Amsterdam was spent pushing my mother's wheelchair through the airport. If that's what you meant by "figures," then I'm very impressed.

If that's not what you meant, see if you can dislodge your foot from your mouth long enough to stop making moronic and ignorant judgements about people.

Don't mince words, tsq, tell us what you really think! ;) :mallory:

Sorry, hon, but you'd never qualify. See, I enjoyed that too. I like debate...pointing out the flaws in stupid statements, the fallacies in generalizations, and the like. Though you're going to have to up your game; I taught public school in the Bronx for five years, and frankly, I've met kindergarteners who could bring it better.

More importantly, I want to know whether the supposed danger of plugging electronics into foreign outlets with an adapter is an urban myth or not! Who knows when I'll venture out on a pilgrimage to Tibet or a backpacking tour of Europe!
