I figured with the regular season just a few short weeks away, it was about time to start the official MLB Regular and Postseason discussion thread. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really looking forward to what this season will offer, both in real and fantasy. This is the time of year I love, with more daylight, leading to March Madness, leading to the official start of Spring and the kick off of the regular MLB Season.

So how does your team look. What team are you a fan of, and where do you expect them to end up come early October? For me, the Giants are an interesting team this season. The pitching staff, as usual is solid with Cain and Lincecum and one could toss in Sanchez and to a lesser extent Zito, and there were some hitters added to the line up in Huff and DeRosa. With that being said, I wish the Giants had gone bigger this year, but we'll see what happens. I am glad Molina is not batting clean up (Is he the slowest player in the game or what?) and I expect big things from Kung Fu Panda this year. Also with Baumgardner and Posey, I think the Giants are going to be worth watching not just because of the two time cy young winner.

As for the other team in the Bay Area, the A's, um who is on this team again? I really have stopped following the A's quite a bit and perhaps this is the year I put them back on the radar. This kid Brent Anderson is a rising star pitcher in the AL I think, and they still have one of the more underrated players in terms of speed in Rajai Davis. It will be interesting to see what this team does, if anything at all. It will be tough, especially with Seattle getting so much better this year.

As for predictions, it's a weak NL west and I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants win it. I can see it being a three team race between the Rockies, Dodgers and Giants but here's hoping the Giants come out on top. As for the A's, It will probably be a last place finish.

I'm psyched for the Yanks to defend their title. They had a team that really clicked last year, and I think they can pull it off again. We did lose some players (like Hideki, but he was useless in the outfield anyway and only worked as a DH; as for Johnny Damon, well, them's the breaks. Besides we got people like Curtis Granderson, Randy Winn, Nick Johnson, and Javier Vazquez, so I'm prepared to call it even), but I think they can manage.

Edit: Yesterday's spring training game really pissed me off. Not just because the Yanks lost, but the stupid idiot moron Pirates broadcasters would not shut up about their stupid fucking season ticket plans for PNC Park! Every 5 minutes they were hawking the damn tickets. It was like a PBS pledge drive. They must be getting desperate if they have to do this during a game. You don't see the Yanks or even the Mets pulling this kind of stunt. Of course the fact that the Bucs have not had a winning season in almost 10 years might have something to do with this. :p (Although I grant that PNC Park is very nice, BTW)

^I think the Yankees are going to miss Damon and Matsui more than they currently realize. Especially with Winn and Swisher manning the outfield and using 2/9 batting spots. Not much convinced of Nick Johnson, but he'll be on the DL most of the year anyway, so not worth worrying about. Yankees kinda feel like they blew it all on the infield, and then had to scrap together 3 guys to stand out in the outfield. All came together last year, but i think you'll miss what you lost, plus gotta admit that for a team that age, they caught basically every lucky break with regards to injuries and missing time.

As for the Sox? I like their chances. Pitching rotation has a chance to truly be something special, with the Beckett-Lester-Lackey-Buchholz-DiceK 1-5, with Wakefield rotated in and out depending on who needs a breather. Offense should be decent, and the defense should be something to see. Part of the excitement is waiting for the trade deadline, where some sort of big trade for a bat (Adrian Gonzales, for example) seems like a lock.

We'll see how it works out, but ready to go :)

I think the Twins have a good shot at winning their division, but Joe Nathan's injury has tempered my expectations some. They spent something like $96 million on their roster this year (which is a lot compared to previous years) and looked to have everything in place, but now there could be a pretty big hole at the closer spot. Regardless, I'm looking forward to outdoor baseball once again. Can't wait to see the new stadium.

If they're in it at the deadline and have a real chance to make some noise in the playoffs, you can always trade for a closer on a fading team for a 2 month patch job.

I'm gonna do a wild prediction since I haven't been following the baseball deals that closely lately though.

AL East
Red Sox

AL Central
Twins

AL West
Angels

AL Wild Card
Yankees

NL East
Phillies

NL Central
Cubs

NL West
Rockies

NL Wild Card
Reds

:D

Ok, I'm off checking out the Reds (I believe they just got a hot prospect few weeks back) and the Red Sox.

Still vying for a Reds-Red Sox world series.

Ooh.. I'll make my predictions

AL East - Yankees
AL Central - Twins
AL West - Angels
AL Wild Card - Red Sox

NL East - Braves
NL Central - Cubs
NL West - Dodgers
NL Wild Card - Phillies

Bad news for Twins fans. Joe Nathan to miss the entire 2010 season - needs Tommy John surgery. Link
Even though they kept saying it was possible, I didn't think they'd risk his arm and let him pitch this season.

At least the Twins finally got Joe Mauer signed (they spent some big bucks), so that'll no longer be a distraction to the team.

For as many positive changes as they've made this year, the Diamondbacks don't seem to have made much of an improvement this spring. Looks like it will be a long, hard fight this year.

Having Webb start the year on the DL isn't going to help either.

I don't think there needs to be any realignment, but what do I know? The only thing I think is a little unfair is that the NL central has six teams... but it's not like you can even count the Pirates.

^ That's probably just because the NL has two more teams than the AL. So unless the AL adds two teams (which is obviously not gonna happen) I think we're stuck with that.

Phillies/Braves on ESPN right now. I wish I had known before the 6th inning... oh well. Tim Hudson has thrown 5 shut out innings... only two hits. I cannot wait for opening day.

I'm just still kind of worried about our infield. Lots of mental mistakes that need to stop.

Looking forward to tomorrow night. The Giants and A's will be on Local TV here. I wish there was more Spring Training games broadcast. Yeah it's a money thing, but why not Televise weekend ST games anyway? That's one thing I love about MLB network. I can turn to that network and they are broadcasting a ton of games and baseball is always on.
