MLB Offseason 2011

So Frank McCourt buys the Dodgers for however much money, completely fraks up the whole franchise, then sells them for $2 billion.

Must be nice to be rewarded for failure.

It's the most American fucking thing ever. He buys the team on completely borrowed cash, mostly in loans / debt secured against his personal real estate assets (which includes the parking lots), bleeds it dry to live a lavish lifestyle, goes completely fucking bankrupt and makes four times his money back. And he isn't even completely out -- he's putting $150 million into a private consortium to develop the parking lots and the land around the stadium.

If you ever needed an explanation of how MLB is corrupt as hell, here you go. MLB takes over operational control of the Dodgers because the owner needs loans to make payroll and Selig never liked the guy in the first place, but the Wilpons are allowed to continue making the Mets look like an absolute joke because they, Jerry Reinsdorf and Jeffrey Loria are among Selig's closest friends in baseball.

I don't mind baseball being played in Japan (yesterday I was driving to work listening to a Baseball game and I thought that was kind of cool) but I really hate that the whole spirit of "Opening Day" has been kind of killed. I remember when there was a day where pretty much every team played, starting with the Reds of course, and you had afternoon games, evening games and there was just that specialness of the day. Now with staggered starts, and international games, there really is no "true" opening day anymore.

Also, this schedule is awful. So the A's and Mariners play two games in Japan, games that count, and now they go back to exhibition for a week and then play each other again. That's just great.

I can see the travel/logistic issues, but yeah, it's weird. I remember when the Mets did it a few years back while I was in college. Watching the game while eating breakfast was great, then a few days later watching a bunch of AA players in an exhibition game against Detroit was anticlimactic.

It'd be like having the first six games of an epic NBA finals series, then 4 days of donkey basketball before game 7.

Jamie Moyer made the Rockies' rotation at the age of 49. It is impossible to put into words just how much that owns.

Also, looking at the schedule, Atlanta plays Colorado in Denver the first weekend of May.

We may see Livan Hernandez vs. Jamie Moyer ... in Coors Field.

Mother of God, I hope this happens. That game would have the dingers. All of the dingers.

So glad it won't be in Miami with that miserable abomination in CF.

Oh, Jesus, I would have been popping popcorn and going down on whomever I needed to in order to see that showcase if it were going to happen.

Gaby Sanchez hit a home run but the Dinger Machine didn't go off. :( Apparently they won't use it during spring training games...

Beautiful stadium, BTW.

And to close this thread, I give you (courtesy of tonight's Mets/Yanks spring training game) the wit and wisdom of Michael Kay: as the Met pitcher - John Church - was struggling with his control, MK called it: "Separation of Church and plate."

I forget the exact reference, but when Ryan Church and John Mayne were both on the Mets, someone made the whole church and state comment.

Kay's radio show isn't bad, but I can barely stomach him as an announcer. Listening to him and Sterling together back in the radio days was about as much fun as a rusty car antenna rattling around in my dickhole.

I'm gonna check out the Angels game tonight after I finish watching this movie that I've already started. I normally don't watch much AL baseball, but I'm interested in seeing Pujols in action.

I hate that there's no Braves game today. The scheduling seems completely random this year.
