Following up from the 2010 thread:

Good thing I'm not a Marlins fan, because how the hell can you explain/justify the trade of Dan Uggla to Atlanta? Not because they traded him -- because that's what everyone's come to expect of such a second-rate front office -- but who they got in return. Omar Infante? Will the commercials for the 2011 season boast about ALL-STAR Omar Infante being in the lineup?

Guess you could ask the Mariners about that, after they traded Cliff Lee away. I'm surprised any of them can still stand up after kicking themselves in the ass for so long.

Marlins are getting a utility man who almost won the batting title and a hell of a pitcher. I'm not quite sold on the deal, though. They'd better make a multi-year deal to Uggla.

The Mariners trading Cliff Lee was different. The Marlins just like the shed payroll the moment a player becomes really good and will command a hefty pay raise, like the Pirates used to do before they stopped having good players on the team.

The Mariners sucked, there was no way Cliff Lee was coming back, he's was going to be free agent and was open about wanting to hit free agency, he's going to be asking for Sabathia money, so how much can you get for a rent-a-player? And a rent-a-player also limited the number of teams who will make the trade because they have to believe they are legitimate contenders to part with top prospects. And that's the most you can get for a rent-a-player. You won't be getting Joe Mauer.

Glad to see Ron Gardenhire finally win the AL Manager of the Year Award after finishing 2nd five times. I have a feeling he wouldn't have been chosen had the voting not been done before the playoffs started, though.

^Is that a Black Lab, Peg? I'm a double offender as far as owning Labs go.

The Mets are supposed to pick a new manager this week. Yay. Other teams are going after free agents, and this excuse for a team is still trying to figure out which nobody will manage them. A couple of retreads and a criminal, oh boy. That's the best the new brain trust could come up with?!? I am moving further and further into Rays fandom at this point.

I suspect I am moving to Portland next summer. I will become the biggest fan of their AAA team I suspect. Through thick and thin, I love the Beavers, even when they stink.

Felix Hernandez won the AL Cy Young Award (receiving 21 of the 28 first place votes). At least the voters weren't taking wins only into account like they tended to do (on a side note, remember when DH Rafael Palmeiro won the first baseman Gold Glove Award?), though I would've thought the pressure of pitching for a contender would've meant something for Sabathia. Then again, Hernandez was under a lot of pressure too considering that giving up one run usually meant a loss for him.

David Price was second, CC Sabathia third.

I think it's cool that Gardenhire won manager of the year. I give props to the Twins even though I'm a Yankee fan. :techman:

I don't know, between mismanaging the bullpen, failing to use platoons, calling steals all the time despite the team's awful success rate, deploying the cursed hit and run and giving ABs to Drew Butera, I don't think there's a whole lot to like about him.

She's a mutt I adopted in Mexico a few months ago. She was supposed to be mostly lab, but there seems to be an awful lot of border collie in her. She's still a pup, so I'm hoping more of the lab will show up later.

Well in another example of how little America cares about the dangers of drunk driving, former Yankees cather Jim Leryitz was convicted of a DUI but not DUI manslaughter.

^ Sadly, I can't say I'm surprised about that. They didn't even charge the driver that killed (new Mets GM) Sandy Alderson's father with ANYTHING. 'Course, that driver wasn't drunk that I'm aware of, but still...you'd think that there'd be some charge, right? :(

Nice! I've never smuggled livestock over the border before...just drugs and organs.

Sweet, the Giants have signed Aubrey Huff to a two year deal with an option for 2013. Now if we can lock up Uribe and Burrell I'll be happy.
