Ich wählte!

(Sorry, I don't know German; that's from Google translate. Hopefully it's grammatically correct.)
Surprisingly (as google translation tends to get it wrong) it is absolutely perfect, but as Professor Higgins remarked: 'such good English is spoken only abroad'. Like in colloquial English, in colloquial German we prefer the present perfect over past tense. Ich habe gewählt / I have voted would be the more common form.
But for a lover of language "Ich wählte" is like a tree full of bees for Winnie the Pooh :adore:

Actually, I voted for Gutenberg...

I felt that just everyone of us owes him more than we could imagine. That even includes Beethoven.
Waaay back in the previous century, the A&E channel had a 2-night countdown of the 100 most influential people of the past 1000 years.

It was surprising to see who made the list and where. Princess Diana made the list.

I'm pleased with the higher-ranked choices, though. Shakespeare came in at #5.

The #1 spot went to Johannes Gutenberg. His invention made widespread literacy possible for so many people around the world.

I wonder what he'd have made of the current trend in backsliding toward communicating in pictures rather than in real words.

Sure, Gutenberg is great... but you won the vote, quite handily, I might add!

Looking forward to see what you come up with for the next contest! :techman:

(I am sorry, apparently I could not resist the temptation.)

I was actually thinking about emojis and icons, not obnoxious .gifs (I love smileys, but pictures like that one above... can't stand them, actually).

Lydia started this one.

I've never started a contest here. Entered this one somewhat by accident!

It's tradition for the winner of the previous contest to run the next one. That's your "prize" for winning! :D

I'm sure you'll do fine. If you're unsure of something or have any questions, just ask!
