But in all seriousness, that does sound like a pretty intense system. I hope you (and all others affected) stay safe and warm!

Around here, we've been setting cold temperature records over the last couple weeks. Now they're saying a new, even colder air mass is moving in later today. The temperature in my city is forecasted to be -19 (-2 F) tomorrow morning, with a wind chill of -29 (-20 F). And we are expected to be the warmest of anywhere in our region.

And it's been bad pretty much across the entire country. People and animals are literally dying from this. Spring can't come fast enough.

No kidding! We came home after Christmas to find our front door frozen shut, and we had to get a hairdryer out of a suitcase in order to be able to open it, but it took us around 15 min before we could even get in.

^that explains the unusual heatwave we're having in Central Europe. We always get the opposite weather than America since your cold air streams push hot air from the Mexican Gulf to us, as they explained on TV the other day. Over here in Bavria we are currently in the low fifties (12 to 14°C) while low single digits (-16 to -20°C) would be normal for the season.
I expect the abnormal weather phenomenon to break down by mid-month the latest. And then we'll get your frost while it'll get warmer on your continent. I'd strongly advise to take precautions for extreme floods, for when all that snow you got recently melts while the soil is still frozen the water can't filter into the ground and your streams and rivers will overflow.

I survived okay. Lots of snow-- looks like over a foot to me, but I don't know the official count-- and we had some coastal flooding, but that's a mile away from me. For now, the snow is keeping my house insulated, so I'm not too cold. We never lost power, which was my biggest worry.

The extreme cold and snow is supposed to continue through the weekend. My plan is just to cocoon at home! Now they're saying we should actually crack above freezing by mid next week. We shall see.
