I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at? I was just going by how he identified on his own profile.

Well if that information wasn't there, my point would be obvious, but as that information is there, I'm not "getting at anything" and I am in error.

Fair enough. It's a fair argument that many posters seem to default to "he", even if the profile explicitly says otherwise. Since many people have made the same incorrect assumption in my own case, I always check first, and if the profile doesn't say (or I don't know from previous discussion) then I will instead opt for "they/them".

Funny enough, on another board where I used the same handle, another user thought I was a woman, because they only heard the name "Kai" as a girl's name. Which it is in some parts of the world. In other parts, though, it's a boy's name, including my native Germany, Wales, and Japan. When I got John Barrowman's autograph at a convention, he even thought I was Welsh. Turns out I got a pretty international name.

Well, I thought it was funny, anyway.

^ I'm going to show my profound ignorance, and admit that I didn't realize "Kai" was a given name at all. :alienblush: TBH, I've never really been sure what your handle was a reference to, but I assumed it was related to DS9... or maybe possibly The Final Reflection.

You're not the only one, Kai. Also, I am still in doubt as to which gender teacake might have. I used to think female mid-twenties but certain aggressive tendencies in - his/her ? - hir ! (eternal thanks to Peter David for supplying us with bi-gender pronouns!) replies to people who disagree with hir would rather hint at a male teen.

Um, just to go into mod-mode for a second, I'm not sure making commentary on posters who aren't even in this thread is probably a road we want to go down. (Not the game part, I realize that's just a joke.) Thank you.

No biggie. Until recently, I was one of the assholes who thought you were a man.

Ditto.

What has that got to do with anything being discussed here?

But to answer your question, @teacake is a woman, younger than you, older than I, doesn't take many things seriously and like many people, isn't a fan of yours.

Oh bollocks, sorry @Avro Arrow, I missed that wee announcement.

I smell a new forum game coming on. "Guess the gender and age of the previous poster"
That's a great idea :) With some posters it's really difficult to guess so that imho such a thread has a potential for surprises.

@ Avro: you're absolutely right and I apologize. My migraine made me forget my manners for a moment (which is only an explanation, no excuse, of course). Teacake, if you read that: I owe you one.

^ OK, thank you. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time available tonight, but I will try to get the new contest up tomorrow night.
