Micheal Jackson's Elephant Man

I remember back in the 80s all those rumors about Micheal Jackson. That he had bought the bones of the Elephant Man, and crazy stuff like that. But famous stars spending money on crazy things isn't new. Nicholas Cage's current financial woes are due to his spending money on dinosaur bones, and comic books.

What if you, one day, one a 300 million dollar lottery? You but anything you want because money wasn't an issue. What crazy things would YOU buy...me???

I would buy the entire JLA comic book run from #1 to the CRISIS (mid 80s).

I would probably buy some warehouse down in Australia, the thing to do these days, and build a replica of Star Trek's bridge (TOS). And just fly down there when ever I wanted to lavish my inner geek.

I would see if TOHO has any new GODZILLA movies in the works, and pay for the chance to be "the guy in the suit".

And yes...Mr. Cage...I would buy some dinosaur fossils!

What would YOU buy?

Rob

Where did you hear this stuff about Nicholas Cage?

As for Michael Jackson, he never actually tried to buy the Elephant Man's bones. Michael, at one point in his career, was amused by the press' fascination with him, and used to disseminate crazy stories just because he thought it was funny. The bones story was one, the hyperbaric sleep chamber was another. He had that photo of him in the chamber done and he secretly released it to the press because he thought it was funny that they would believe this stuff and print it.

However, that innocence eventually backfired on him with the way the press and public opinion started to turn against him because of these outlandish stories.

Dude was the architect of his own demise. :(

There have been recent stories about Cage's tax issues. And then came stories that he had bought islands and dinosaur bones, and several expensive homes all around the world.

As for if MJ, or Cage, bought these outlandish things or not isn't really any of our business. Because, if I had that kind of money, I'm pretty sure I would have bought some crazy things too. Be it Elephant Man bones, Action Comics #1, or several high classed hookers at one time, they're all just the fruits of having $$$....

The question is, really, what would you do with that kind of money? What strange items or outlandish things would you buy?

I would definately by the San Diego Padres!

If you won "only" a $300 million lottery, you're probably be short of getting outright ownership.

But you're in my ballpark, so to speak. My first thought was that I'd put together an ownership group and become majority owner of the St. Louis Cardinals.

You're probably right Franking...I would have to raise the 'dream amount'...lets say you rescued Bill Gates from kidnappers and he gave you 10 Billions dollars...

Oh yeah..now were talking TWIN SISTER hookers!!!

I was just remarking to someone the other day that it would be nice to have a lot of money so I could give it all away. Of course, this isn't practical as there would be endless amounts of people who wanted money. But if I had enough to live reasonably well, I would love to just help people out. I'd set aside some money for individuals, some for small businesses, some for charities, etc. Not just the United States, but other countries.

I would also love to either find or found some a few different types of programs in India, and I would like to try to promote literacy in Bangladesh.

Honestly, if I had 300 million, I don't think I'd spend it on rediculous things. I already make enough money to buy more or less whatever I want, so if I was rich I'd retire and buy a nice house in the caribbean or somewhere nice...maybe a cool car or two.

Obviously there would still be at least 298 million left over after that. I'd probably just sitck in in the bank.

I would madly expand my rubber duck collection. I would buy a bigger house so I could have a large room just for my duck collection. Instead of the 99 ducks I know have, I would have thousands.

And I would also buy art glass from the world's best living glass artists such as Lino Tagliapietra, Dale Chihuly and Big Bill Morris. I would need several rooms for this collection.

And I would get three more cats because I think that one has to have at least 6 cats to qualify as "Crazy Cat Lady". I would have a super cat enclosure built for my cats.

I would definately get me a new cat. Haven't had one for years.

I would have a tailor made aqarium that had little 'see through' connectors that went along the wall into bigger aquariums through out the house..a fish freeway.

I would buy an 80's Toyota 4x4 van, drop a diesel in it, and convert it to run on grease. I would put a large amount of the money into a situation where it can safely accumulate, and make charitable donations from this.
I would live where I need to live, and finally, at last, be able to just do my OWN WORK without being saddled by some effing dayjob. This would, at least initially, be centered around a small-midsize recording label, and finally really give that a go, which would be financially separate from the core fund.

You know though, these conversations also illuminate where we hold ourselves back. It's hard to be stuck in dayjob-work that isn't where you'd want to be, but its important to continue to try, to continue to find niches and make one's own opportunities. Not to lose oneself in the grind.

And buy several of those self cleaning litter boxes I've seen advertisements for?

I would build a creativity center, a huge place with facilities to build anything. There would be a wood shop, a metal shop, a machine shop, a metal foundry, a glass works, a plastics shop, a fiberglass shop, an optical shop, an electronics lab, a computer lab, an aerospace test center...you get the idea. I would invite people to come in and use the facilities to build anything they want.

If I had a continuous source of income to fund it, I would hire about a thousand creative people to do nothing but indulge their creativity, to build anything they want. I think the end result would be really cool.

Very cool...more kind hearted than I am!! I'll give you that..

I might try to make a KICK ass fan/film (based on one of my stories of course)..

Honestly, "kind-hearted" isn't very accurate. I'm a total tech-nerd so that kind of thing would be my wet dream. I would be in heaven with a facility like that and the company of all those skilled, imaginative people.

Well, it goes without saying that all my few bills would be paid in short order..

Lots of money would go to a couple of charities I'm fond of.. And then I'd hire Marillion to play a private show for me and my Marillion buddies (think Trek BBS community, but on a much smaller scale) and hold it here in Albuquerque.

And a Jag.. Definetely a Jag..
