MemoryAlpha editor refuses to change Adira's Gender to "Non-Binary"

Bad move on Memory Alpha's part.

They removed it from the sidebar entirely, which is a good half-measure. But, since gender is a major part of Adira's character, being the first non-binary character and all, it should absolutely be defined in that sidebar (and, of course, the text). The term "non-binary" has never been uttered, but this is not a canon issue. It's a dictionary definition. Adira, as stated in the show, is neither a he nor a she, therefore Adira's assumed gender is non-binary until told otherwise.

This seems obvious to me.

Careful please, gender very specifically isn't binary in Star Trek.

Blatant transphobia and completely unjustifiable.

It’s just supposed to record things that are canon, Adira saying they are going by the pronouns “they” is 100 % canon, they literally said it on screen. For a fandom centered on a future where everyone gets along and not only accepts the differences between individuals, but celebrates it. A awful lot of fans not only failed to get it but actively fight against it.

I don’t know if there’s bigotry involved or if this is just the standard regid M-A “not on screen so not canon” argument.

They didn’t change Adira’s pronouns to they/them until it was actually brought up in the show, before then they used She/Her because that’s what the show used.

It’s bigotry and they still haven’t changed it, long after the show revealed it and despite every single article, interview, press release, and/or statement about the character mentioning that the character is non-binary. You would not do this to any other character in the franchise. It’s only a problem when it’s the lone non-binary character.

The article does use they/them. What’s missing is the term ‘non-binary’ because of that stick up their ass that everything in the article needs to be said on screen.

Non-binary is mentioned in the behind the scenes section of the page that’s it.

No, they’re justifying it by saying they’re going by sex not gender. It’s always the excuse to justify transphobia. I have first hand experience with this and see it again and again and again. It’s transphobia whether you understand it or not.

I agree with you on Archduk3, he even temp banned me from editing the wiki because I called him a bigot.

I’m just saying that all the admins are similarly stick-up-ass about everything in the wiki using on screen terms.

They still refuse to use the term Kelvin Timeline because it’s not a term used in universe, despite the fact all official marketing uses it. It’s not just limited to Adira being non-binary.

This is about a person who represents a minority group that is under siege from these same attitudes. If you can’t see that it’s because you just want to ignore it or you fully support it.

Pleasant admins they have over there...

Wow! As I nonbinary person myself this is so disappointing. I expected better from memory alpha
ETA: Its also incredibly ridiculous and cowardly, they rather remove the gender section of sidebar entirely then just have Adira gender say Nonbinary, christ... Is there anyway we can get rid of the Archduk3 Admin?
