MBTI of Trekkies

Hi everyone,

I recently took the Myers Briggs Test, which is a personality test with a base in science. I was wondering what the Myers Briggs Type Indicators of Star Trek fans are, and if they differ from the regular population at all.

I got my results back a few days ago, and I am an INTJ. Introverted iNtuition Thinking Judging. What are you?

This thread crops up once in a while here.

My reply from that thread:

I've done Myers-Brigg testing many times now and am an INTJ, and very heavily so...

INTJ
Independent, original, analytical, and determined. Have an exceptional ability to turn theories into solid plans of action. Highly value knowledge, competence, and structure. Driven to derive meaning from their visions. Long-range thinkers. Have very high standards for their performance, and the performance of others. Natural leaders, but will follow if they trust existing leaders.

Of course, the flip side to the above is that INTJs are stubborn sons of bitches, who have zero respect for authority if they don't believe in the authority and are often perceived as ruthlessly efficient... or sometimes just ruthless. With a thin veneer of learned charm, of course... ;)

A fuller description of the type

I don't know to be honest.

"N", definitely.
"I", fairly confidently.
"T/F" unknown. I use and value both. I have no overall preference for one or the other.
"J/P" unknown. I find this one has several internal dimensions, giving several independent ways of measuring it, which are not always consistent with one another. I value both J and P perspectives, and I have no overall preference for one or the other.

So IN??

The reason I settle with two ? in my MBTI code is that I find MBTI is a somewhat flawed and limited theory. It has too few degrees of freedom, and as with the J/P debate above, it tries to bundle too many independent things into one letter.

I prefer Jung's function theory to MBTI, which gives us eight independent variables rather than four, even though that isn't perfect either.

I'd be interested in hearing what others think my MBTI code is. For those here who know me / remember me. :)

Sorry, I didn't realize that MBTI threads already existed.

Wow. According to the internet, INTJs are about 1.5% of the population. 2.5% of the male population, and 0.5% of the female population. But there seem to be several INsomething somethings here, and many INTJs.

My entire class at my school took the test, and there were a fair number of INTJs. We weren't the most common, but there were quite a few of us. Maybe it's because INTJs and similar MBTIs tend to be interested in science, as most Trekkies are, and I go to a science oriented school. I need to research this more....

INTJ.

Just took the test, and came with that---again. I've been that for a few years now. Back in college, I think I was an INTP, but now that I'm older, I'm definitely an INTJ.

ISTJ, apparently, though the "S" and the "T" are only 1% more than the alternative.

And, of course, all this is based on the assumption that people are good at self-analyzing, which I don't really buy. A lot of the answers I put down had more to do with how I feel about myself than knowing how I behave in real-world situations.
