Well the playoffs are about to start so start making your predicitions. Who's going to win and in how many games? And who amongst us is the king or queen of prognosticators?

First off, the quarter finals.

In the East:

(8) Boston Bruins vs. (1) Montreal Canadiens
(7) Ottawa Senators vs. (2) Pittsburgh Penguins
(6) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (3) Washington Capitals
(5) New York Rangers vs. (4) New Jersey Devils

In the West:

(8) Nashville Predators vs. (1) Detroit Red Wings
(7) Calgary Flames vs. (2) San Jose Sharks
(6) Colorado Avalanche vs. (3) Minnesota Wild
(5) Dallas Stars vs. (4) Anaheim Ducks

Also, who do you predict will go all the way to win Lord Stanley's cup?

East

Montreal in 5
Pittsburgh in 7
Philadelphia in 6 (I have a feeling this will be an upset)
New Jersey in 5

West

Detroit in 4
Sharks in 6
Avs in 5
Stars in 5

In terms of who wins the Stanley Cup, Go Sharks!!!

I'll go with the Penguins. (And not because I'm in Pittsburgh...they are a really good team.)

(8) Boston Bruins vs. (1) Montreal Canadiens
Habs. 5.
(7) Ottawa Senators vs. (2) Pittsburgh Penguins
Sens. 7
(6) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (3) Washington Capitals
Caps. 7. (Which I consider an upset, since the Flyers actually have more points).
(5) New York Rangers vs. (4) New Jersey Devils
Rangers. 6
(8) Nashville Predators vs. (1) Detroit Red Wings
Wings. 4
(7) Calgary Flames vs. (2) San Jose Sharks
Flames. 7
(6) Colorado Avalanche vs. (3) Minnesota Wild
Avs. 7.
(5) Dallas Stars vs. (4) Anaheim Ducks
Stars. 6.

My heart is with the Senators, but my money's on the Habs.

EAST
Montreal in 6
Pittsburgh in 7
Washington in 5
Rangers in 6

WEST
Nashville in 6
San Jose in 7
Colorado in 7
Anaheim in 6

Montreal will make it to the conference finals against Pittsburgh
San Jose will make it to the conference finals against Anaheim

Habs in 5 -- Montreal's flying.

Pens in 7 -- Ottawa has its problems, and I am hesitant to write them off just yet. I'm giving this one to the Penguins, but I think it will go to 7 and can go either way. Underdog advantage.

Capitals in 6 -- I really don't like Philly.

Ranges in 7 -- Again, either way. I'm giving it to the Rangers though.

Wings in 5 -- I mean, come on...

Flames in 7 -- Underdog situation, Calgary's favourite. I know San Jose has won something like 49 out of their last 50 games, but that was last season. When the Flames want to play, we can play. I reserve the right to change my prediction of this series after game one.

Avs in 7 -- I dunno. At least Minny has [sorta] abandoned that horrible trap system they completely owned. God damn, that was boring to watch.

Stars in 6 -- I considered predicting a sweep, but I don't really know what;s going on over there in Nashville these days. I think Dallas has all the pieces, though.

Rangers in 7

Wings in 6
San Jose in 5
Wild in 6
Ducks in 6

For the Cup? Habs, of course. (In all seriousness, I see them or Pittsburgh in the final from the East and once there, anything can happen. From the West, San Jose or Anaheim should be in the final.)

I have seen into the future and here are the results:

Habs in 5
Pens in 6
Flyers in 7
Rangers in 7

Wings in 5
Sharks in 5
Avs in 6
Ducks in 7

And your cup winners.....The Pittsburgh Penguins!

Habs in 4 (that's right, I'm bringing out the brooms)
Pens in 6 (living in Ottawa, I really hope I'm wrong)
Caps in 7 (they've got the big 'mo and Huet)
Devils in 6 (it could go to either one, I just think NJ has the edge)

Wings in 6 (I'm being generous to Nashville here)
Sharks in 6 (a fairly strong solid team against an uneven inconsistent team)
Avs in 7 (no reason, on paper, Wild seem better but I think it'll be an upset)
Ducks in 7 (I keep changing from Ducks to Stars and back again. I'll go with Ducks just because they're defending champions and the Stars lost Zubov)

And your Stanley Cup Champions, for the twenty-fifth time: le club de hockey Canadien!

Montréal will go. All. The. Way. I figure they'll meet either San Jose or Detroit in the final; the latter would be awesome just for the old-school Original Six showdown, but I'm leaning towards San Jose as the more likely contender.

No love for the Red Wings? They're only the BEST team in Hockey. So not a single person thinks that the #1 ranked (and President's Trophy winner) Detroit Red Wings will win the Stanley Cup?

The President's Cup has nothing to do with the Stanley Cup. In fact, it looks more like a curse than a blessing. However, I will say that it will be the Sharks and Detroit in the Western Conference Finals. That will be an awesome series.

If they didn't play in the weakest division in the NHL, they would not be regular season champs. And they don't have the goaltending to go deep into the playoffs. Also, when they start encountering major shutdown hockey, they have no support players who can really step up. Shut down Zetterberg and Datsyk and they're toast. Same problem affects Ottawa this year. Spotty goaltending and an over reliance on their "top guns". Why is Montreal a surprise contender this year? Goaltending and a balanced attack (seven players with 50 or more points--much harder to shut down). Doesn't mean the Habs will win (they are young in critical areas), but they have more "tools in the box" to go deep than some others that, on paper, should be more favoured.

Well I'm rooting fer my Rangers. No other team matters.
You mean the team that can't hold a 5-0 lead (admittedly against a team with destiny on its side) without losing the game? Good luck. ;)

All in good fun, of course. The Rangers have been among my favourite "other" teams since the days of Jean Ratelle and Brad Park (before they went to the hated Bruins).
