Lora Johnson has passed away

F. King Daniel

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
I feel this deserves a thread here. Author of Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, the TNG Technical Journal and several more, has passed away.

Her books were a massive part of my childhood, I loved them to bits. I popped when I spotted a tiny reference in shield terminology from Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise on a display screen in Star Trek Into Darkness. I also loved more recently reading an old interview where she talked about her visit to the classic movie sets just after STIV wrapped revealing that the bar McCoy visits in III was a re-dress of sickbay which I somehow never spotted before. And that the dining booths in Mr Scott's Guide were actually part of the sets, presumably a holdover from Phase II but never seen.

I'm very sorry to hear this. :(

I was wondering what had happened to her. For a bit she was active here and was talking about her interest in redoing or writing a companion book (I don't recall which) to Mr. Scott's Guide; I consider it a real shame that, to the best of my knowledge, nothing concrete came of that.

She did do some consulting for the Roddenberry Archive project on the interior layouts of the -refit and Enterprise-A, so as those virtual tours are expanded, we'll see some of her ideas for the second edition MSGttE in that form. Some of those new sections, which weren't seen in the movies, were previewed in the Archive's most recent sizzle reel, like what appears to be an upper-saucer cargo bay at 6:33.

James Darren has passed away, age of 88. Played the holodeck character of a crooner, Vic Fontaine, on DSN
