Lifeboat - my favorite SG episode of all

I don't know why I like this episode so much. It doesn't have space battles or anything like that. But I think this is my favorite Stargate episode of all time.

Did they ever do a follow-up to this, saying what happened to all those colonists they rescued? Did they ever find the planet they were looking for? (I'm just guessing that SG could have located it, assuming that some of the ship's crew had access to a star chart.)

Also, that Sovereign was a piece of work. I could only imagine what the 'real' one was like. I love that bit where Daniel has 'been' the little boy for awhile, with his head in Frasier's lap, then the Sovereign takes over...

I've found myself levitating to the space battle-lite episodes more and more as I've watched more than 14 seasons worth of Stargate. On the Atlantis side,iIn season four, my favorite episode (with two episodes left to see) was "Tabula Rasa." I was also partial to "The Ark" in season three (also short on space battles).

Over on the SG-1 angle, my favorite episodes are "The Torment of Tantalus" (no space battles); "Cold Lazarus" (again, no space battles); and "Heroes, Part II" (some battles, but the real key to this episode is the characters).

I've seen "Lifeboat" a couple times, but I can't say it's my favorite season seven episode. Michael Shanks does manage a fairly capable performance in it, though. Can't remember any follow-up.

I loved "Lifeboat." I especially liked the small scenes that Daniel and Janet had together, as he flashed through the different characters.

My favorite episodes also are not big space-battle episodes. I like the one-on-one character interaction and development episodes, like "Gamekeeper," "Legacy", "Forever in a Day," "2010," "Maternal Instinct," and of course, funny episodes like 'Window of Opportunity" and "Wormhole Extreme."

What can I say? I'm a complete sucker for Daniel. I love watching him solve problems, not by blowing stuff up or spouting technobabble, but by working with people (or Unas, whatever) and knowing what matters to them.

I am, here, assuming that most of the crew of this crashed spaceship did survive, except for those whose minds had been uploaded into Daniel (and, later, the ship's officer Pharrin)?

It was really sad listening to Daniel (as the little boy) and Pharrin say their last goodbyes. Although I suppose it wasn't like that, really, since the boy's mind was probably UL'ed into his dad at the end.

I wonder if there was anything that could be done for Pharrin. By the end of the episode he must have had at least a couple dozen minds inside him. I hope he didn't go mad from all that. I find myself hoping some other advanced human culture could help out - provide cloned bodies, or even androids ("Tin Man"?) so that those disembodied minds could live again.

I agree. I think people sometimes underestimate how good SG1 was with the character moments. SG1 had some remarkable character moments. That is where the true strength of the show was, not in the flashy battles or special effects. You mention some great episodes. I would also add "Solitudes", "A Hundred Days", and "Meridian". Also, Jacob's death scene in "Threads" is incredibly moving, when Carter thanks O'Neil for being there for her and he simply puts his arm around her and whispers "always". And, there is a scene in "Redemption" when Teal'c and Rya'c are sitting at the foot of the stargate and Teal'c says "Whether you believe in me or what I have chosen to do does not change the fact that I have never doubted your heart, Rya'c. You need never win back my trust, my son, for you have never lost it.". I choke up every time I watch that scene.

Yeah that was good. Poor Janet. You can just see her thinking ohhhh crap...

Simply the best episode for Shanks showing off his acting, he was truly wonderful in that episode

"Lifeboat" was certainly my favorite episode of Season 7. It's one of the few in that season that deals with a new planet & a new culture rather than just following up Anubis or the Tok'ra for the umpteenth time.

AFAIK, at the end, it was confirmed that all of the minds that had been uploaded into Daniel were transferred, successfully, to Pharrin, who would be taken care of by the revived crew of the Stromos.

Also, I just had a great idea for who the Sovereign must have really looked like.
