LEXX: Hated by many, enjoyed by few

I worship his shadow!

I just rewatched the original TV movie (even though I well remember much of the series' 4 seasons anyway) and really enjoyed it.

I think people generally failed to embrace it the way they did Farscape, even though there was a lot of similar flavor (though LEXX was darker and peppered with more sexuality, like it or not).

I loved seeing Barry Bostwick again in the original episode and look forward to Tim Curry's appearance (it IS "Rocky Horror" Month, after all ;)), but I'm going to enjoy watching the whole thing all over again.

Anyone else? I fully expect tons of naysayers saying they thought it was stupid and/or they couldn't "get into it", but I know the show wouldn't have lasted its 4 seasons (such as they were) without SOME folks having been on board from the beginning.

Who's out there? Yo Way Yo!

Yeah, one of my guilty pleasure, used to love this series!! :)

I liked the TV movie and regualrly watched the series up until they hit Earth. 'Lexx' was not typical scifi and employed a lot of offbeat humor which is probably why a lot of scifi fans, expecting a more traditional show, did not warm up to it.

I thought it was great, it was daring, dirty, sexy and funny. Ok some episodes could be really crap but when Lexx got it right it was fantastic, it really pushed the boundaries. Other talented actors include Nigel Bennett and Rutger Hauer, I'm kinda surprised Louise Wischermann faded out so soon after Lexx

Season 3 in particular was insane. And for LEXX, that's saying something. :D

I like to rewatch LEXX avery now and then when I need a slice of crazy SF that has a sexy German lass as the female lead (I find Zev cuter than Xev, but Seeberg was the better actress, IMO).

I've been meaning to get into this series, but I can't seem to figure out all the differences between the DVDs. There are three seasons--plus an initial season of four TV movies. And it seems that Europe and the USA had different versions of the episodes. And some of the episodes are out of print stateside, according to wikipedia.

So...if I wanted to see Lexx uncut in Region One, is it even available right now?

I just found out I work with Jeffrey Hirschfield, co-creator of the series and the voice of 790.

It kind of got me thinking I should rewatch at least the original 4 films.

I tried watching it fitfully. The sex didn't drive me away, I think sf/f should have more sex (just not the juvenile Star Trek catsuit nonsense). The problem was, the characters were unappealing. If they'd had a John Crichton type in the cast, I probably would have stuck around. One good character goes a long way...

I enjoyed Lexx while it lasted. Offbeat is probably putting it lightly; I can very well understand why a lot of people didn't like it, because it's a show that has to be approached with a certain frame of mind. To me, though, the bizarre character of the series was one of its perks: even when they had a bad episode, they failed in a new and original way. And yeah, it was nice to see a sci-fi show not be so damn prudish and frigid.

I tried watching the show but didn't care for it. Sure it was sexy but that doesn't help if you don't like the characters.

I enjoyed it too got all of S2 and 3 on DVD plus half of S4, I keep meaning to get the others. The TV movies are quite difficult to get hold of though.

Xenia Seeburg was all I needed to see to get me to watch each week, and the strange humour was right up my alley as well. The cheap special effects added to the camp nature of the show.

Lexx really wasn't my cup of tea at all. I really tried watching it but found myself driven away by a number of things. I felt it was really poor in terms of characters and writing. It could be really silly at times to a degree that was just hard to take, I found.
I also didn't much like the designs they had. I know they went to a lot of trouble to create what was there but it really just didn't appeal to me at all.

I suppose it may share similarities with Farscape which would explain why I like neither :D.

I liked the season where this bad guy called Mantrid(?) was slowly consuming the universe. It was a pretty good story arc, but I lost track of the series when they got stuck on those two planets in the next season.

I don't know if R1 works for you but they were just re-released in R1 and reasonably priced.

I loved Lexx it was great fun and certainly diferent than anything else on TV and I loved Eva Haberman.

A very odd mixed up little show; not so much off beat as off scale, playing to it's own set of rules as it were. When it was bad (as was quite often the case) it was dire and achingly repetitive but on the odd occasion that it was good, it was bloody awesome.
Yo way yo! ;)

I liked the characters on Lexx and loved the show. This show was first and foremost a comedy. Either you like the humour or you don't. I found it hilarius but I can undestand why lots of people didn't.

Lexx was always better when it was focused. Season 1 and 3 were probably the best, being the shortest so i think that they were more aware of time constraints and getting the plot in. Seasons 2 and 4 were weaker but season 2 was great at the end. Season 4 was absolutely fantastic in the 1st half but then went way off the road before having a redemptive last couple of episodes. Prince is definitely one of the highlights of the show. Always totally relaxed, even when getting screwed over.
