Law & Order: SVU "Lunacy" Episode

Dayton3

Admiral
What did you think of it?

The big problem for me was the astronaut friend of Elliots.

Everyone knows that you don't give a guest star that much air time and not have them be a massive part of the climax and resolution of the episode.

The problem with this episode to me was that everything is so damn obvious to the viewer yet is going completely over the heads of characters that it looks ridiculous.

I enjoyed it, but the answer to the puzzle was put up in huge shining letters for the audience 20 minutes into the episode.

Yep, I had him pegged as soon as he killed the bearded guy.

Pity that Dickie had to be named after such a loser.

I did like that bit where Munch gets the guy's autograph. Munch: "In case I'm wrong." Fin: "I think it just started snowin' in hell." :guffaw:

the bearded guy.

Dude... that was Chris Elliot.

But yeah, this show is getting like Columbo. I knew Brolin was the killer as soon as they flashed his name on the screen. It may as well have said "guest celebrity killer James Brolin."

Anyone notice the DA wasn't in it? I wonder if they had to shoot around her because they realized she's an atrocious actress and they need to figure out how to get rid of her.

I actually thought Munch had figured it out and was getting his handwriting for analysis or something.

And I thought Elliots taking his sons comment "I would do anything to get to the moon" to be the breakthrough for him to be pretty lame.

But to me it was just way too obvious even before he murdered Chris Elliots character.

They had four separate suspects at various points and Colonel Richard (whatever his name was) had actually pointed them at three of them and helped apprehend two of them.

If he had not turned out to be the killer it would be the ultimate "wtf!!"

To me this is what happens sometimes when television producers don't actually WATCH television. They forget just how some of this stuff looks to the actual viewer.

Pretty good episode, overall. I like James Brolin a lot and I think he did a good job in the role. However, I pretty much know he was the killer right off the bat. And you know how I know that? Because he was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno a couple nights before and they gave it away!

Oh, by the way: Have you ever seen Christopher Meloni in the 1996 Wachowski Bros. thriller Bound (with Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon)? I'm telling you, his is one of the funniest death scenes I've ever seen! ([*BLAM!*] [*BLAM!*] [*BLAM!*] "Don't shoot..." [*KLUNK!*] Well...I guess you had to be there!)[/quote]

Yeah, from a viewing point of view, it was obvious because of the casting.

And, in-universe, it's just another reminder that Cragen and Stabler, and probably Benson, should all be put out to pasture. No way should a potential suspect have been that involved in their investigation.

It's such a sharp counter-point to CI's Captain Ross, who wouldn't even let Goren's mentor in on an investigation (rightfully) because he could've been a suspect.

And I do hope the new ADA has gone bye-bye. She was really awful.
