in which i post a bunch of CGI ships, mostly*. modelled and rendered in an old version of Cinema 4D. starting with my most recent (finished) project, this TOS or pre-TOS-era convoy escort

made basically because i had this image
korblborp-_-st-scout-0268-posed.jpg

in my head, in december.

Escort/Scout <---- link with talky bits and more pictures

the TLDR: envisioned as a convoy escort and fast but short-ranged pursuit ship, 90 meters long, maybe 50 crew, 2 phasers and one photon torpedo launcher. two or three small shuttles for boarding or rescue operations. she's too small to have a *turbolift*.

*because it's easier to get a ship to look like a ship in CG, even if i barely know what i'm doing after all this time. i do draw them too, among other things, but i also draw a lot of, uh... well my air-clad Ael t'Rllaillieu and Dr. Selar fanart is against the rules, but what about a bikinied bolian?

on a side note, i had to wait for newbie message to go away when i signed in recently and started chatting, but i joined in 09. i wonder what i was lurking back then that made me sign up, and then just... not visit for fifteen years?

Your escort/scout ship looks pretty cool. The simplicity of the configuration looks like something that would believably be at home on the original show. And I love the pearlescent material you used for the hull. :techman:

We have to be really careful not to post any NSFW material, as our advertisers do look at the site and every now and then flag something that’s too suggestive or otherwise problematic. So since the board’s existence is reliant on those advertisers being happy, nudity is an absolute no-go and even some SFW imagery can get flagged.

I’m personally not opposed to tasteful, respectful and decent erotic art (especially if it’s not just something serving the heterosexual male gaze and presents women as sex objects) but the situation with the advertisers doesn’t give us much leeway, I’m afraid. If you’re unsure about posting a piece that might be an edge case, don't hesitate to reach out via PM and I will take a look at it, telling you if it’s fine to post or not. :)

thank you. although i can't really take credit for the material, it's a default that happens to look the way i like with tiny adjustments. and then the same one looks like junk in a different project, like on the impulse engine and the aft shroud thingy on the warp nacelles on the fighter i just posted. same material, looks like butt.

better safe than sorry.

the thing! the device! with the flashy tubes! that's in every scifi thing! Blinking tubes without function! mine don't blink, though. and there's probably little bits and bibs and additional details i should add, but they often changed on the real thing.

not strictly Trek, but it's certainly in many episodes and movies...

~ Ah, but you should take some credit for the way you use it. I think it looks fantastic on the whole ship! (Perhaps it's best used for large swathes of hull, if not the whole thing?) It gives a kind of 50s (2250s?) look to it - a pre-TOS finish, perhaps?

I may have fixated on a small project over the weekend...

So this is *my* take on the "neo-constitution" idea, only it's been percolating in my head and across various pieces of paper for fifteen or twenty years. obviously the idea was to take the basic shape of the Constitution class and apply *Sovereign*-class and TNG and post-TNG design elements and philosophy to it (something the E-E design was already itself doing). not an original idea, of course, i've seen more than a few takes on the idea, both fanmade and official.

still much work to be done, not the least of which is windows. escape pod hatches, deciding whether the extended saucer hangarspace does the *Galaxy*-class thing or subsume it in the wedge above the impulse drive. deflector grid panels, texture details, additional launchers so both sections can fire forward and backward when separated, more impulse engines for similar reasons...

idk, i ramble...

decided to model laser pistols from the Cage, expanded that to a "rifle" version (although it's more of a carbine, and winds up looking like a "grease gun" or similar smg), and then for some reason a wood stock version, because surely there are a few "bubbas" in starfleet?

i should have left one of the pistol's sight down to show they do fold. and i did redesign the grips to look more like actual handgun grips. no trigger guards but now they have grip safetys so hopefully you don't acidentally lase somebody unless you're holding it correctly?

The Federation doesn't report statistics on accidental laser discharges :)

But a guess on how the grip safety worked was you had to squeeze the mechanical grip safety (in the front, opposite of a Colt 1911) and the index finger would apply pressure to a pressure sensitive trigger area to fire. Or alternatively, squeezing the grip's mechanical handle was the trigger? I prefer the former as the latter would seem to be difficult to get a good aim with, IMHO.

along with obvious things like the escape pods and thrusters, deflector, rebuilding the bridge dome, some other stuff; there's been a lot of small changes in secondary hull shape, nacelle details (also i lengthened them by fifty meters because they looked stubby in my orthographic views.

next up is large panels and windows i guess, which i am not sure what method i will use. normally i do booleans for the window insets, and then a large polygon for the glow, but i am up to trying something different...

not sure about some of these placements and they feel oversized but...

here you can see i thinned the back of the port nacelle pylon but not the starboard one, because i have some idea involving flush vents and haven't gotten around to it yet, but will delete and duplicate when i figure it out; and the secondary impulse exhausts, and the saucer shuttlebay has doors. not sure what to do with the secondary hull shuttlebay yet, that's a placeholder...

secondary hull hidden to show that yes, she does actually have a properly modelled separation zone. no idea what exactly to do in here for clamps and things. of course the secondary fits right in here, modifiers allowing.

she does have torpedo launchers in all of her bays now, although still haven'tfigured out where to put an aft-firing set on the saucer.
