The Kes Website will cease operations on Saturday-at least until certain problems are solved.
I have had the site going since 1999. In 2009 I had to move it from Geocities when the greedy people at Yahoo abolished free websites, thus killing a lot of good websites in the process.
After a horrible experience at 100MB where I couldn't upload or edit the site for six months, I moved the site in 2011 to its current location at Byethost where everything has worked fine-until now.
During the weekend when I tried to access the site via Google Chrome, my antivirus program blocked the site, warning for a trojan on the site.
I loged in to the site via byethost and accessed the files via their File Manager but couldn't find anyhing suspicious. No viruses either on the backup on my computer.
Further investigations showed that the Kes Website is blacklisted on some forums. More investigations showed that many other Byethost sites are blacklisted as well and even further investigations has showed that Byethost obviously has a bad reputation for a lot of reasons.
I've mailed their support and stated my complaints on their forum. So far no reply.
Those whose access to the site are not blocked with an effective anti-virus program will see that I've added a sign where it's stated that "the site is temporarily closed".
If no solution of this annoying problem has presented itself on Saturday, I will erase all files from Byethost.
Meanwhile, I will search for other solutions. So now I'm looking for a decent web host (most likely a free one since there's no profit for me in maintaining the site). If anyone of you Voyager fans have some good ideas, I will appreciate that.
Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of a work-related project which consumes most of my time so even if I do find another web host, I might not be able to restore the Kes Website until the beginning of next month.
As I mentioned before, I've had this site since 1999 and have had a lot of fun developing it. It would be sad to abandon it after all those years.
But I must admit that I'm getting tired of those constant problems with worthless web hosts. So much for trying to keep up an interest.
Maybe I should do like the average jerk, sitting in front of the TV, drinking a lot of beer, watching worthless lightweight pop "entertainment" or lousy soap operas and complain about the weather?
Or bore myself slowly to death by watching NuBSG or Stargate Universe?
