Ka D'Argo = Worf Son of Mogh?

Quantum

Captain
Captain
I have been watching the first season of Farscape.

I am starving for Sci-Fi right now.... I am so desperate I am watching Earth 2 and Space Above and Beyond for the umpteth time. I lucked up and found the first season of Farscape on Fancast.

Anyway...

I can't help but draw comparisons between Ka D'Argo and Worf Son of Mogh. There voices are almost the same. I was so convinced that I looked up Ka D'Argo thinking he was played by Michael Dorn only to find out it wasn't him.

The characters are so much alike they are like the same person. Every time Ka D'Argo speaks I expect him to be holding a bat'leth instead of a Qualta Blade. So am I crazy or what?

Certainly in the early episodes of Farscape D'Argo felt like a Worf clone, but certainly he grew out of the mould as the series progressed...

D'Argo looks like he's wearing some fake Groucho Marx nose. I expected him to do the Humpty Dance and brag about once gettin' busy in a Burger King bathroom.

I suppose they're characters in the same mould, but they're very different characters once D'argo's character starts to develop he and Worf are nothing alike, beyond being the "warrior alien".

Yup, all sci-fi series seem to have the Worf-like character, the big, strong, loyal type.
Teal'c. Ronin Dex. Tyr. D'Argo. Chewbacca.

It's a basic archetype used forever in storytelling.

I remember thinking the same thing with Farscape, and I remember reading that was intentional by the writers. To set up the characters into their easy to see and understand archetypes, and then to evolve them from that. And they really really did!

I hate most of these characters because to me, they're just Worf wannabes (Worf is to this day one of my favourite characters ever, so that's probably why). Still can't stand Teal'c. But D'Argo REALLY defied my expectations as they explored what he was about, and I grew to really love him. He surely became one of my favourites!

The similarities are superficial. D'Argo is a much more nuanced and interesting character than Worf ever was, IMHO.

I'd say they're equally interesting. The only difference is that D'Argo had 4 years to be that interesting, where Worf had almost 20.

I've always been a Worf fan, but I agree that D'Argo quickly became a much more substantial character. He wasn't as hung up on personal honor as Worf was, and the delicate moments he shared with Zhaan and even Aeryn in that first season are great roadsigns to where his character would eventually lead.

Let us not forget that in time be became
the captain!

I don't really count Chewie among the rest of the group anyway. He was played for laughs far more frequently than the others. He didn't have a true speaking part. And he was cowardly far more often than any of the others.

You forgot "ethnic." Of all these alien warriors, D'Argo is the only white guy.
D'Argo is darker and more ethnic/alien than Ronon.

D'Argo is much less conservative than Worf. Less self-controlled, too.
And luckier with women. More than any of those other guys.

He does have a conflicted son and a dead wife like Teal'c, though.

So does Worf, except he wasn't married to K'Ehylar when she died (for all intents and purposes she was his wife).
