Josh Hutcherson audition video for "Spider-Man"

Josh Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth, Zathura, Bridge to Terabithia) was one of the top contenders for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the new reboot of the franchise directed by Marc Webb.

He eventually lost out to Andrew Garfield (Boy A, Lions for Lambs, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) but Latino Review has managed to grab Hutcherson's audition video.

It's pretty much a very well choreographed fight sequence between Hutcherson playing Parker and some unknowns playing Mary Jane Watson, Flash Thompson and some thugs, but it's a pretty impressive video and shows why Hutcherson was one of the top contenders for the role. I was pretty impressed, anyway.

What do you guys think? Would he have been a decent Peter Parker/Spider-Man or was he rightfully not cast?
 
That was fun to watch. :lol: I think he could have pulled it off.
 
The fight choreographer of that sequence was Larnall Stoval, the fight choreographer of Undisputed 3 and that Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film.
 
I did like him...and I enjoyed the tape...we don't have the advantage of seeing the other candidates tapes including Andrew's to judge if he was "rightfully" cast or not but I will admit that Josh was good. I think he was one of my two choices for the role and that's pretty cool about the choreographer. As for the project I'm still meh at this point.
 
That was pretty bad. Haven't we already seen this movie before back in 2001. What a mistake to rehash the whole high school crap again. Judging from what I saw from the kid in Journey to the Center, they made a smart choice in choosing someone else.
 
you gotta give the kid credit.. I bet that cost him a good chunk of change to put together... and it was a HELL of a lot better than that farsical (sp?) audition tape that actress (forget her name) put together for Transformers 3..

Plus, he at least has the acne to pull off a high school kid with some authenticity. :)
 
I do see what made him a candidate. As I said Josh Hutchinson was one of my top two picks. He certainly looked the part and putting the tape together himself seems to indicate his passion for wanting the role. He would have been a fine choice.
 
The coreography was well done, but I think his acting in this actually hurt his chances. He had exactly one expression through the whole thing - slack jaw mouth breathing.

I must say I agree. The choreography was great, but I was unimpressed with the actor.
