Jonathan Frakes in North and South, Books 1, 2, and 3

As many of you know, Jonathon Frakes had a co-starring role in the ABC Mini-Series North and South, North and South Book II, and North and South Book III. He played the part of Stanley Hazard but since he did such a good job in the role, I think it help him get role Commander Riker on Star Trek The Next Generation in 1987. Does anybody have information, if this true......Please advise here or send me a private message on this site. Thanks in advance.

He has spoken many many many times on how and how long it took for him get the role. Something like Nine auditions over 3 months. It wasn't one role. He fit the type and went through the process with many other young handsome leading man types of the mid-80's.

That, plus it turned out Gene Roddenberry liked him. So, that probably helped a lot more than North and South...

So, He was he working on North and South Book III during one of seasons of STAR TREK The Next Generation?

Durin' a hiatus between filmin', yeah. It's mentioned in the TNG Compendium, I think, that as a joke, the crew had his Starfleet costume sent to his trailer while he was filmin' one N&S sequel chapters.

Its not unheard of, ya know, for an series actor to take a role durin' a break in filmin'.

Also, Didn't Jonathan meet Genie Francis on the set of North and South, and then later got married as well. Does anybody know, if they are still married?

Pretty sure they are, since she was with him at his last convention appearance in D/FW a couple of years ago...

Since, I have been rewatching North and South, Books I, II, and III on DVD, I decided to order from amazon.com the soundtrack from Bill Conti from North and South. The music from the mini-series was really at the top and has a great sound for all to enjoy. Next time, You watch the mini-series, take a second listen to soundtrack by Bill Conti ~~~ it really is the BEST!!!

Kristie Alley was in that too.

Kristie Alley was Outstanding in both North and South and North and South Book II. Her performance was Outstanding and I'm sure it help her career greatly for other acting work.
