Jon Paul Steuer dies aged 33

Only 33. In a creative industry... I can guess one of three in-plain-sight general reasons, though the law of probability is not a guarantee any of those would be the reasons. (Congenital health issues, substance abuse that seems to be prominent in the industry and I believe I figured out why a long time ago, and/or related to depression leading to suicide.)

Either which way, it's depressing to read. One of the few things one doesn't become desensitized to...

I wasn't aware that Brian Bonsall wasn't actually the first actor (I assumed he played all of the TNG eps, but that's not actually the case).

Terrible - at such a young age, with the best yet to come :( The poor family :(

@marsh8472: suicide is imho very unlikely. His friends and colleagues describe him as a very cheerful and optimistic person. Not the type for a suicide. I'd rather suspect it was a car crash or a similar kind of accident. After all, it happened on New Year, the day where the most drunk drivers are on the loose .

^^ as a matter of fact I know about depression, JP. Been there, survied and got the t-shirt.
Even an excellent actor can't hide himself completely from his friends. Particularly if they are musicians. Ask anyone who plays in a band, they'll confirm that your mood will always reflect a little in the way you play. It's something subconscious you can't block out completely. The audience may not notice the minute changes, but the people you rehearse with every day will without fail.

Why is everyone so obsessed with suicide-rumours whenever a celebrity dies? Is perishing from a common coincidence not glamourous enough?

Er, who's obsessed? I believe people were just speculating...and under the circumstances, I don't think it's especially unreasonable speculation.
