John Dies at the End by David Wong

I recommend this book and the sequel "This Book is Full of Spiders; Seriously Dude, Don't Touch It". The author (David Wong is a pseudonym) is an online humorist, contributor to National Lampoon and editor in chief of Cracked.com. Plot: David and his best friend John are introduced to the drug "soy sauce" which gives users a window into another dimension. There is an otherworldly invasion threatening to enslave humanity, but it's not your usual war of the worlds type story. It has a little more in common with Shaun of the Dead in tone. It's also coming out as a movie soon (trailers are up) so reading the book first is up to you.
If you've read the book, tell me what you think about it. If this has already been discussed ad nauseum, I'm sorry, but I missed it and I enjoyed the book.

Could be...David Wong is the pseudonym of Justin Pargin, the editor in chief, so maybe he drew from those he knows. There is definitely a lot that's reminiscent of Cracked in the book.
