JMS tosses Forbidden Planet Script

Why? because of leaks on the net about the script.

But when I think to Star Trek XI, large parts of that story were leaked on AICN before anything got moving on that. I don't see why JMS has to get so uptight about it. It happens. It will happen again probably. The people who read it are a small part of those who will be watching it.

I liked the concept they had for this, having it be a sort of Prequel. But now starting from scratch seems like a waste of a good story.

"So to the sites that say, "Where's the harm, it's not like they're gonna toss out the script because we blew the contents of same all over the nets," well, yes, that's exactly what it's like, and it's precisely your responsibility that a year's worth of work was destroyed. So we start anew, with the determined hope that the next draft will be even better, and far more secure, than the last one."

Breaking news: JMS hates Internet. More at 11.

God JMS is an insufferable twat.

The logic he's using is utterly idiotic. People aren't going to see Forbidden Planet because they read a synopsis on AICN or something? What a fucking joke.

I guess it's no surprise given how pissy he gets about copyright infringement. What an arrogant twerp.

That said, I watched Changeling last weekend and I actually rather liked it, and I didn't expect much going in.

JMS said:
I got an email warning that there was a changeling downloadable on the nets, went to check it out, and got hammered by a virus in the form of a trojan. It began showing popups all of a sudden, and it kept trying to get me to put on virus remover (which I know is bogus) and there would be feeds coming in from audio...I've run spydoctor and pccillinto try to make it stop but it keeps happening. In layman's terms, since I'm not a pro...how do I get rid of this thing?
Every time I log onto aol, another window pops up as it tries to log me in elswhere.
:guffaw:

I wonder if that's how they ganked his Forbidden Planet script. I get a kick out of this guy shooting himself in the foot while teaching the evil Internet pirates a lesson.

Oh, and did you guys hear? JMS made a movie... with Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolie. He's so dreamy that JMS.

Talk about misdirected aggression. WB said to scrap it and as such, he had to go along with it.

So wait, when he says " Warners and I have decided to chuck the screenplay in its entirety and start over." he's just talking about the Warners? Is there some other interview where he says he was forced to do it? Also, I take it the rest of the stuff, about anticipation being ruined, that was just the WB talking?

It sounds as if he's blaming Warners jettisoning his script on the Internet leaks.

Yes, Yakko Wakko and Dot can be quite annoying when you're trying to get work done.

What sort of nonsense is this? I remember when the ENTIRE Batman Begins script and the whole BSG pilot miniseries script leaked out on the internet. I read the latter, not the former. The latter made me think the show was going to be awesome (it was) and created rabid anticipation in me. Anticipation didn't seem to be "killed" for those projects.

And this wasn't even the full script from what I see. There have been hundreds upon hundreds of script reviews hitting the net beforehand. Many of them are successful reasons.

I dont know, I smell a rat here - like Warners wanted to start over for a different reason and used this as an excuse. By the way, I'd bet money this new script hits the net. Someone's going to want to prove a point here.

It's all that leaping about going "Boingie, boingie, boingie!"

Sounds like Warner Bros. wanted to start over to me--and they couldn't even find a good excuse.

On the other hand, they've retained Straczynski as a writer, so it's possible I'm misinterpreting the situation. Still, it's rather odd to jettison the script after it was leaked, considering such things happen ALL THE TIME.

Yikes. I always knew JMS was an old poop (he used to co-host a weekly radio program here in LA many years back and he had attitude even then) but still... Sheesh.

Isn't this like saying the anticipation for the Lord of the Rings movies was destroyed because the stories were published 50 years earlier and read by millions before the movies even came out? Jeeze.

Didn't I read somewhere that the Twilight author threw away the sequel book she was writing because one of her friends leaked it to the press and now she won't do anymore sequels?

I just read JMS' Forbidden Planet/download tirade over at jmsnews. What an out of touch drama queen. sheesh.

Hopefully he's only been hired to write this movie. I'd hate to think of how insufferably dull and pretentious it would be if he produced it too.

Well, neither he nor Harlan Ellison were as even tempered as Mike Hodel.

I honestly don't remember him having the same ascerbic edge that Ellison could display at times.

I'm not defending jms here, but he is right. People on the net have gotten this entitlement thing going on nowadays, where they think they are entitled to have anything they want for free. "Hey, that new cd is out, I'll download it for free" or "Hey, I don't feel like going to a crowded theater to see Watchmen, I'll just download it for free."

What these people are failing to realize is more than that it's illegal, but it really is destroying the very thing they seem to care about. Shows that are on the borderline are canceled - they are on the bubble, but dvd sales could push them over. Instead of buying the dvd, "fans" download the show. They have what they want. Instead of getting more of what they want, they've just ensured the final season of their show.

It happens all the time. Does that make it right? No. Not in this world, or any other.

You wouldn't work for free. Why should the writers, directors, producers, actors, etc., work for free?
