Spoilers Is Talinn past or future Laris?

Unimatrix Q

Commodore

Considering that she looks just like her and that we heard her speaking romulan in the latest episode, i think both of these things could be possible?

If she's past Laris, it could explain how she came to trust and become Picard's friend in such a relatively short time, especially for a Romulan and eventually fall in love with him.

If she's future Laris, she may have pretended to be another person to not corrupt the timeline or change the events that lead to her travelling to the past and watch over Renee.

Or is she an ancestor or descendant of Laris, maybe even Jean Luc's daughter that he possibly will have with her in the future? Would explain her human ears...

OMG, what if Q simply wanted to help Jean Luc to get together with Laris and the penance he talked about was for not taking the chance to find true love. And that's why he arranged things. So he finds either Laris or his potential daughter in the past.

Wasn't there a comment by Matalas or someone else from the production that the future will be saved by love  ;)

I think she's past Laris, what with the Romulan characters on her tablet, and the Romulan cursing. Maybe whoever installed her erased everything of her memory they don't consider necessary for the job, including her Rmuln heritage?

I suspect any connection between Laris and Talinn will in the end just be left vague and open to interpretation.

Based on Orla Brady’s interviews about it, I’m almost certain you’re correct. She said there may be a connection between the two, but that they were two separate characters, and ‪‪I tend to believe her. She didn’t appear to be holding her tongue, or being coy, or lying to preserve a reveal, so I’m taking it at face value, and assuming they’ll do exactly as was described above, and keep it vague.

I don't really like any option at this point. I'm happy to see Brady as a regular, but I wish they had figured out a way to incorporate Laris instead (she could have come back to the past with the crew for instance). The Watcher just happening to look exactly like Laris is just dumb. We already have 2 other characters that look exactly like people from the future (although I can accept those more easily there is a point where it just becomes silly). Also, I feel like the 24th/25th century Laris being the watcher in the future kind of takes away from what we saw of the character in season 1 and in the season 2 premiere.

I suspect she's a descendant or anscestor taken by Gary 7's people as he was and put to work on Earth in the 2000's.

Part of me suspects hey just wanted the actor in it as a different person and we'll never get a proper explanation. But you can always say "a wizard did it" because Q.

If she's future Laris then she'd be from the Confederation future where Picard is evil and I imagine that'd make her less eager to work with him.

Not necessarily, as we don't know much about the potential of the Aegis and she may have to go there after the Federation future is saved. So it could simply be a paradox.

Even though there might be some cosmetic chirurgy involved, explaining her human ears, i think if we get an explanation, it will likely turn out that she's Jean Luc's daughter or granddaughter.

I don't think Tallinn is Laris.

I'm going with my suspicion that Aegis operatives like Tallinn can take any humanoid form and that she just chooses to look like Laris. WHY she might do this, I have no idea.

As for why Tallinn speaks Romulan and has Romulan tech in her apartment? I'm sure the Aegis is behind that as well. Whatever works.

I don't think there's going to be any fundamental connection between the two characters other than being played by the same actress...but I could be wrong.

Given the headgear Orla Brady wears in the preview for this week's episode, I'd be surprised if she isn't directly connected to Laris eventually.

Picard: Laris I'm back!

Laris: Great! Must've been fun mixing it up with the primitive 21st century, mind hacking your childhood issues, and convincing Guinan not to give up on humanity even if I still owe her a boot to the face.

Picard: Wait, what? I haven't even said anything and my mission was classified how do you even know any of that?

Laris: Oh um, right, I'm former Tal Shiar. We just know everything. Don't ask. Want to get it on now?

Picard: Yeah why not--wait isn't that Zhaban over there? I thought he was dead?

Zhaban: Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain! Um, I mean--Meow!

Picard: He's not really your husband is he? I've had it with this nonsense, get out all of you. I'm going to visit Guinan. No wait, I know--"Beverly, it's Jean-Luc. Yeah I know you haven't heard from me in a while. Can you come help me out? I need to unwind after finding my life has been surveilled by galactic agents."

Zhaban: Tallinn this is the worst mess you've made since that business with Spock and the cloaking device.

Laris: Be quiet.

roll credits: Picard Season 3 coming soon

So as of Monsters, as many of us had suspected based on the many clues and well, being played by Orla Brady, Tallinn is confirmed to be Romulan. Picard suggests she’s probably Laris’s ancestor, and any direct connection beyond that is left unsaid.

I think that would be too confusingly redundant a setup for television if they already gave Tallinn the ability to project herself psychically through proxy humans.

Oh for fun..... Tallinn is Laris. She's past Laris and she reveals all that to Picard when he gets back to the corrected future. Not only was she sent to take care of Renee Picard, she was sent to take of the Picard line. Jean-Luc is the last this she can rest, fall in love with him and yada yada.

I have no idea if that's actually how it'll play out but I could see the writers going that route.
