Is StarHunter and its spinoff worth watching?

Yevetha

Commodore
"The year is 2275. Bounty Hunter Dante Montana and his ragtag crew are commissioned to track and capture dangerous interplanetary criminals, including an evil force Dante believes kidnapped his son. Meanwhile, covert forces are waging a desperate war to unlock the secrets of the Divinity Cluster - powerful knowledge that would mean universal domination...'

Is it like Firefly? Cowboy Bepop? Does it have any aliens in it?

I actually really enjoyed it. I only saw the second season where his son was commanding the ship, searching for his father.

A distopian future with terraformed planets in our system, worn out machinery and broken space ships. Always lots of trouble to get into.

It's "like" Firefly, I don't know if a FF fan would enjoy the show, but it is a very similar premise.

I watched the first season. It was OK and I did like the fact that it was set only in our solar sysem. There were a couple of characters that I really liked.

I have been meaniing to buy the second series if I can get it cheap enough.

The budget for both series was very, very low. The basic concept sounds fun-bounty hunters..IN SPACE!, but the execution undermined it. I watched, mostly out of curiosity...I did like season 1 character Luc, and Percy was fun at times. Series 2 flips series' 1 premise around, and was an improvement, new cast members sparked things up a bit, but still, the budget crippled what they could do.

"Starhunter" doesn't have a spin off series..."Starhunter 2300" is a sequel to the first season and sort of a retooled attempt at continuing the series. I'm a big fan. Percy is my favourite character. I borrow my friends DVD's all the time for rewatches.

I enjoyed the first season. It was a really really low budget show, and similar to Firefly, if only by coincidence. I thought the world they created was interesting, but the characters and stories were boring (except Percy and Caravaggio, and sometimes Rudolfo)

The best part of the show is how they depicted travel around the solar system and how big it really is. If you can stomach the supremely low budget style and bad acting and slow stories . . . you might enjoy it :D

I watched the first season. I picked it up a second hand store for $10, figured it sounded worth a shot. IMO it starts very, very slow. It took about half way through for some semblance of a plot to start to emerge. However, that was a bout 2 seasons faster than DS9(which I love) but the characters weren't as rich or developed so it felt longer. There are only 4 main cast members with a few guest aliens every week. It was for sure shot on a shoe string budget. I'd never recommend it first among sci-fi shows that I could, but I wouldn't discourage it either. I'd take into account the person I'm talking to and if that person had patience, liked Serenity, likes sci-fi in general then as an exercise in variety I'd say try it out.

Admiral Young answered my question, "Wait, spinoff?"
I've not yet seen Starhunter 2300, it's been 2yrs since I watched the first if that give the OP any indication of things. I will get to it I suppose. I'd rather watch my Stargate SG-1 first which I've not seen totality, plus I just got Babylon 5. Both shows I'm more curious and eager to get to.

I really enjoyed the Divinity Cluster Mystery/Arc, and some of the Bounty Hunter stuff was alright. Most of the non-arc episodes, that dealt with only the Bounty Hunting were just so-so, but, the unveiling of the Divinity Cluster Arc, was really interesting and different. I think by the end of StarHunter it had really taken off, very good cliffhanger, which is never fully resolved, because StarHunter 2300 starts off with a Time Jump.

I actually found a couple sampler disks with the first 8 or 12 episodes on them, and tried them out first, then went ahead and bought StarHunter, and finally StarHunter2300.

On both the Sampler Disks, and the DVD Box set, the first 8-10 episodes of StarHunter are all mixed up, so, be sure to look up the episode order, so you can swap disks back and forth for those first 8-10 episodes so you can watch them order, as their is an arc, flowing through most episodes (though in some episodes very lightly)

I'd enjoy seeing them take another stab at it with a higher budget, but, honestly, for the Bounty Hunting part of the show, the low budget gave the show charm, and gave the show's Universe a "Gritty, Dystopian, Lived in" Look

I remember reading a long time ago on the Space Cast (Space the Imagination Station still back then) website that the actor who played Rudolpho (Stephen Marcus) posted in the forum that there were plans to do a season three, apparently three or six scripts were completed (I forgot which it was now) when the funding was finally cut. Never have been able to verify this but it would have been interesting if we had got a season three. It did have a very low budget, which was why it was eventually cancelled really...but still managed to tell I thought pretty decently written stories, and had some great characters.

Yea, I too realy enjoyed the characters. Ofhand I can't really think of any regular/recurring characters I didn't like

That's unfortunately because of the low budget. I think the most memorable guest star they had was Vin Flores (Earth: Final Conflict). Also there was no alien contact yet in the Starhunter universe IIRC.
