Intel Core Processors 2011-2013

I was wondering if anybody out there knows about the current Intel Roadmap for their Core series processors.

I'm not sure I trust the information that is available online.

Second generation core series (known as Sandy Bridge) processor are going to hit the market in 2011. The entry level chips are supposed to have two processing cores (dual core).

According to everything that I've read online processors that will be released in 2012 (Ivy Bridge) are supposed to have entry level chips that have four cores (quad core). Also eight core chips will exist for new entry level chips in 2013 (Haswell).

Do you guys trust this information? I have a hard time believing that the cheapest of the new processors will have two cores in 2011 and eight cores in 2013. The reason that I don't believe this is because the news reported was reporting last year that the Sandy Bridge chips shipping in 2011 will have a minimum on four cores but they were wrong.

What do y'all think?

Ok. Either the reports last year are wrong or the reports from the Intel Developer's forum held in September 2010 are wrong.

Either way you can't trust the internet 100% of the time.

There will be a die shrink of Sandy Bridge in 2012 which will bring quad cores to the mainstream apparently.

As far as laptops go, entry level cpu's will indeed have 2 cores (think of them as enhanced current i5 cpu's).
Mid-range will have quads, and high end will probably go into higher clocks and possibly more cores.

Since I bought my laptop in late 2008 and it has C2D P730 inside, I'd rather wait until I can get my hands on a 8 core laptop cpu instead of going with quad.
Specifically I need this for my 3dsMax, and getting a desktop is not an option since I'm relatively mobile.

Take a look at

There are a number of articles on Sandy Bridge and Intel's road map.

Yeah. I'm familiar with Intel's road map. I just find it hard to believe that Intel processor will go from a minimum of two cores today to a minimum of eight cores by 2013.

dual core processors, from Intel, have been in the enterprise market segment since 2006 (IBM had dual core POWER4 chips in 2004). Intel has consistently taken some tech from their Xeon line to the consumer market.

six-core Xeons have been around since 2008 (the Intel Xeon E7450, as an example) so an eight-core consumer grade CPU, available in a few years from now, very easily fits within the realm of reality.
