Depends on your perspective. Trip made Charles aware that she was living as a slave. Archer actively forced her back into slavery. In other words, Trip showed her that the shackles were there. Archer made the decision to slam them shut.

Trip told Archer he wasn't responsible.
Archer knew he was.
