I just watched Netflix's new time travel thriller movie, In the Shadow of The Moon, this morning and I really enjoyed it. It stars Narcos' Boyd Holbrook, The Last Man on Earth's Cleopatra Coleman, Dexter's Micheal C. Hall, with Fargo Season 2's Bookem Woodbine and Legion's Rachel Keller in smaller roles, it's directed by Jim Mickle and written by Gregor Weidman and Geoff Tock.
I thought this was really good, it was well written, with good performances from the cast and an interesting hook in the time travel aspects.
The big reveal with Cleopatra Coleman's character at the end was a big surprise, I did not see it coming.
The way they slowly reveal things that start to explain what's going on was timed pretty good, they gave you enough to keep you interested, but spread it out, until you get to the big reveal towards the end.
Damn, is there a way to add more options to the poll? I finger slipped and I accidentally hit Enter.

No, like I said, my finger slipped, I didn't mean to actually post the thread. But now I found the edit poll button, so I added to rest of the ratings.
I give it an A.

My apologies, I know that, that's why I quoted that part, I was just making an ill considered joke.

6.2 on IMDB. Looks like another Direct 2 DVD level movie on Netflix. We seem to have reached total oversaturation of streaming-based sci-fi shows and films. The last bunch have been mostly awful.

I find it kinda strange, because the SF/fantasy series on Netflix have have been decent in some cases recently. Even setting aside Stranger Things, I really liked Altered Carbon, Lost in Space, and Disenchantment, for example, and thought Love, Death + Robots had some nice shorts.

However, Netflix sci-fi movies have been almost invariably crap.

Agreed. I almost go out of my way to avoid them now. I think the last one that I felt was good was I, Mother. It's more than a 50% chance that a movie will just stink, while the series definitely have a better chance of being better. Makes me wonder if they have a different team in charge of approving the movies vs who approves the series.

I know that some of their big movies only come to them because they've been rejected for one reason or another by real studios. This seems pretty different from how their TV studio works, which purposefully develops its own native content from the start.

I'm really hopeful Old Man's War is actually good though. It would be a hard thing to fuck up.

Well, the content is a mix of international movies or series that they buy the rights to stream, which make their "originals" label so confusing as they don't make most of those themselves. I wish they'd give them a different label. The native content is actually quite a small portion in comparison, but that's the stuff that I'd label as Originals. Stuff like House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things.

The first half is intense but also pretty good at developing the main character, but then it just went off the rails when we get to 2006. I thought the ending was hackneyed. The first half is intense but also pretty good at developing the main character, but then it just went off the rails when we get to 2006.
