I met Wil Wheaton at the Eureka wrap party a couple of weeks ago.

Hi,
Just thought I'd share an experience I had with a TNG star.
I'm a visual fx artist on the tv show Eureka, and recently met Wil Wheaton at the wrap party. I've had my share of meeting a few tv and movie stars over the years and the feeling of being starstruck doesn't go away.

Wil was nice enough to pose for a couple pictures with me, and we chatted about a few things. One thing I didn't know was that he had a hand in developing software at Newtek Inc. (the makers of Lightwave, which is used in various Trek show). We talked about that as well as CG things in general. As for Star Trek talk I geeked out and told him that I saw every episode of TNG from start to end.

Overall, it was a great time, and Wil was super nice to me and everyone there.

Wil is a nice guy, I first met him 6 years ago in pasadena, He was in a bar trying to pickup this hot girl.. Go Will i thought LOL

Cool.

Wil is a pretty swell guy. I do hope the majority of Trek fans have long since realized this by now but every now and then I still bump into the hatred. It's quite appalling.

Even though my signature may suggest otherwise, I'd like to make it clear that I have no problem with Wil Wheaton. In fact, he sounds like a pretty cool guy. But Wesley Crusher was a pretty annoying character. Not as annoying as Anakin Skywalker in the Phantom Menace (that entire movie was pretty damn annoying in general) or anything with Haley Joel Osment, but still, an annoying character nonetheless. Of course that's not his fault. It was the fault of the producers for trying way too hard to make the show more appealing to children. I mean, come on... a 15 year old being made a bridge officer on the flagship of the federation? Lame.

It was only a couple weeks ago that I realized that was him on Eureka. That is one of the very few shows set to auto record on my DVR.

Thanks for sharing your experience here with us. :) Yeah, Wesley Crusher was an annoying character most of the time, but Wil is definitely not him. It appears some fans like to carry over their Wesley impression onto the actor, despite being completely unwarranted. I've never met Wil, but most of the testimonies I've read, like this one, affirm he's a really good guy. Down to Earth and approachable.

I saw him at the Vegas '07 con. He read aloud from a script he wrote -- where he humorously looks back at TNG eps. He was hysterical.

I've always liked the wesley crusher character. I agree he was a lot less annoying and more interesting after the first season. You could say the same for some of the other main characters as well.

Yeah a lot of times people have trouble separating a character from an actor. His character on the show was quite annoying to me, but that is no reason to hate him as a person.

I never found Will's character annoying and I never understood the hatred. I also love the episodes he does on the Big Bang Theory.

I have this nasty tendency to DVR entire seasons of shows and then watching the whole thing over a few days. I just got around to watching the last half season of Eureka and I really enjoyed Wil Wheaton's character. At first I didn't even realize it was him because I have the image of Wesley Crusher burned into my head. I was expecting some scrawny 15 year old wearing an ugly sweater. He did a great job at playing the smug, arrogant and childish rival of Dr. Fargo and made me laugh. The episode where he gets trapped in the test room and has to make the origami cranes was my favorite. He's really a decent writer and I hope he gets more work. Maybe he can join Patrick Stewart as the only other TNG actor whose career wasn't destroyed by the show.
