I Just Discovered The Original Gorn In A 1971 Christopher George Movie

I think I have just discovered something that probably nobody knows about. I was cruising youtube looking at old movies around 1970-71 and came across a 8 minute clip from a 1971 pilot movie for a new TV series that was never sold called 'Escape' starring Christopher George of 'The Rat Patrol' fame. I decided to watch and to my amazement..........well.....just watch. Again, I bet nobody has ever seen this before and I bet Star Trek history buffs are unaware of this.

Watch from the beginning but watch closely at 1:25 for a treat!

Just watched the video. William Windom is in it at the end. I want to say that I've seen this. Maybe as a tv movie back in the day.

I must say, that sure does look like the Gorn costume in that scene.

Gorn in "Escape" (1971) by Therin of Andor, on Flickr

Of course, it may not be the original ST Gorn. The eyes seem to be missing, but it does seem to have the original torso and perhaps even the fabric costume.

What year did Don Post start offering replica Gorn masks? I know they were reissued in 1980 (with Spock, TMP Klingon, and bald Vulcan Master), but I'm sure they did Gorn, Mugato and Salt Vampire prior to that time.

Escape was a Paramount production from 1971, only four years after "Arena." So it probably was the original Gorn mask/costume which they had sitting in storage. Studios routinely save items from one production and reuse them in later ones.

By the way, Escape was directed by John Llewellyn Moxey, who directed Roddenberry's Genesis II pilot two years later.
